UCH Fault= BBA Reman fix!

  clio 172 cup, aprilia rsv
as some of you may know i had the dreaded uch fault recently with the right hand indicator sticking on. Asked renault to have a look at it whilst it was in for a service, they blamed the hazard switch and changed it (for the pricely sum of £60!!) even though i was 100% certain it was uch to blame, they wouldnt have it but quoted me nearly £500 to fit a new uch and re programme it! after a bit of research on here i found out about a company called BBA Reman, rang them up to see if they could do anything with it and they said they could certainly have a look:) had it picked up by a courier the next day and within a few days they rang me to say it was sorted, £144 all in, including the courier and VAT and 2 year warranty! fitted back in the car yesterday and is good as gold. These guys are absolute diamonds and provide an excellent service for a fraction of what Renault will charge, if they cant fix it all they charge you is the courier fee although you can send the uch yourself recorded delivery. I would highly recommend these guys check out BBA-Reman.com or call them on 01634687222.
Also is there any way i could get the £60 back from renault as what they did didnt fix the problem??

BBA Reman are a good company - I've sent a few ECM's to them myself but the price isn't *that* great. Granted you're happy with them and that's all that matters but to put it into context all they would've done is swap the flasher relay which is soldered to the PCB and waas proberbly fubar'd... that's an £8 component at most and 15mins work to desolder ;)

I offer a UCH repair service which can fix most common issues along with brand new N2/N3 UCH's supplied, fitted and coded for £300 and really should populate my trader section as it seems a few CS members don't know to get in touch.

hi mick can you tell me the rely that works the abs please.. i got my uch off and the abs light on and the one on the 5 relays is clicking i cant seem to pin point the one thats clicking do you know the abs one please?

Didn't think the abs ran through the uch. Thought it was a separate computer all together :S

It is Jonny so doesn't have a relay controlling it especially not from the UCH. It has a dedicated feed from the battery and the rest is controlled/managed by the ABS module.

The relays you speak of on the back of the UCH switch the front fog lights, int wipers, etc

ok so the abs light on my dash must be the speed /abs sensor gone i am waitin for replacment.. so the clicking relay must be a different fault. but all my car is working so i dnt know .. i guess i just re solder the relay .. the power steering failed earlier and then came back on again.. cant believe this car

You cannot re-code a UCH, they are write once bits of kit. You will need to have yours repaired or replaced with a new 'virgin' one that will then need coding up (on CLIP) or you need to replace your key fob, ECU and UCH with a matched set from another car.

I recently had a 2001 ph2 clio with this fault, right hand indicator flashing all the time and the wipers would run then they felt like it.. What i find interesting is, when you look around the net, theyre is plenty of information about what is and isnt and can and cant be done.. it seems to me, this is the only thread i've seen that is so far off track its laughable, so heres the low down:

The Clio UCH comes in a type 1 and type 2 board, if you match the part number and the Nx build, you can simply swap a little 8 leg EPROM which has 93c66 wrote on it.. this holds all the UCH coding. BUT if you swap the 93C66 for instance from a UCH-N3 type1 to a UCH-N3 type2, you will find the remote locking will lock, but wont unlock, and in some instances, the lights may not function. This is to do with a different configuration in the UCH and the wiring loom! .. i'll tell you more about this, read on..

Mick!.. i dont mean to offend, but i seriously doubt you repair these, if you 'believe' there is a 'flasher' relay soldered to the pcb, the UCH has a processor on it, with a crystal oscillator and many cmos switches on its outputs, why on earth would a designer put a 'flasher' relay on there when the mcu can do all that and more.. No. Despite being wrong, if you had tested your theory you would have found out the relay is not the problem.. albeit a standard relay.

Reading another forum, i see some people are having related issues with symptoms such as when they press down on the drivers window switch (for one-touch models) the right hand indicator starts to flash.. Sorry, this isnt a flasher relay fault.

Now my background is specialising in 'renault fault repairs' and for the majority of people in the automotive electronics trade, you will know of my company. The reason i owned one of these clios was to work on the UCH, to find this issue and repair it. I've had repaired UCH modules that have BBA reman stickers on them, and they cannot have been repaired for indicator faults in my opinion as the effected components are not changed, however I know and deal with BBA, and they are a great company and actually have technicians that know electronics.. rather than most of your pop-up specialists that claim to have experience and be professional.

OK, so no where on any forum is the real fix, and due to nature of the repair.. no one in their right mind would give it out, but I felt a need to put this thread on track, seen as it wasn't really helping anyone. So for the technical minded of you, i'll give you 2 words, and that is the fault, and the fix.. 'Decoupling Capacitors'

..if you know what they are, change them. Job Done. (This works for virtually all input faults, indicator, wipers, chattering relays, locking, drivers window) UCH-N3 usually has only the drivers window running through the UCH, as it has the one-touch feature, the n/s window or passenger for european cars does not go through the UCH.

hi guys well what a nightmare i have had the last few weeks.. i have now found the problem why my interior light and driver window wont work and also i got issue with the indicators when i lock unlock the car some times they will flash as it locks other times they wont but anyway its def the UCH i swapped it over for another and all electrics work but of course the car woulndt start.. any idea what program i need to recode the uch or any idea which relays on the broken uch i need to change or is there anyone who can fix if for me cheaply please..

If you had this repaired at BBA, send it back.. they need to check and connect a couple of parts they moved for testing, and this is almost certainly your issue.. im sure BBA will put there hands up to that and fix it. unfortunately the interior light output is usually overlooked on testing as it isnt an output that fails.. i've made the same mistake with my own during testing. If you wonder why the int light would be on the UCH, its because its dim-out controlled, and comes on when you remote unlock the car, rather than when you just open the door.

I have approx 50 uch boards in stock, i dont sell them any more, as i can easily repair them with the fix i told you. Failing that, i gave you 2 options!!.. dont forget, match the part numbers of the UCH and swap the Eprom 93C66.. its right on the corner of the board, and an eprom programmer should you want to back up a copy of the data will cost no more than £15 for a budget one which is good enough to read 93C66.

For the rest of you that want links etc, this is my first post and i'm going to avoid unsetting the mods and admin. I will just say, you can find the clio repair on ebay, and there are companies such as BBA-reman, Renault Fault Repairs and Tachosoft that offer the repair or the information to those technically minded enough to carry out the repair work.

I hope this helps

I think you misunderstood what I actually meant. I know there is no actual "Flasher" relay per say on a CPU controlled board... but hey, welcome to CS troll on

Hi Mick, i think my point still stands.. replacing the relay wont fix the problem, isnt causing the problem, and as such your presumption on what BBA reman do, wasnt correct at all. You can also reprogram a UCH in with Clip if you put a factory file in the 93c66, so not actually 'One Time Program' as this defines memory that cannot be erased once written. Anyway :) I'm happy to help you with files and/or advice if you want or need it, im not scratching at all, only the content of the thread concerned me a little and like I said, any search of other forums shows plenty factual talk about these UCH fitted in the clio.

nothing personal bud ;-)

so ime in a pickle!! love both your quotes but still dont know what to do with my uch. if i wiggle the wires going in to the uch the lights all of a sudden work and sometimes it wont lock so i wiggle uch unit and central locking works again.. so dont no weather its the uch itsself or loos connection or dry joint. an auto electriction has had a look... said its the unit scrap it it will cost to mutch.... gutted i was to hear that as ive spent loads on the car allready. do i see. mick, bba reman, or jo blogs downw the road to charge me loads and tell me its scrap lol.... any help would be so gratefull please. ive still got 6 months insurance and dont want to scrap it shees a lovley runner apart from the disco car when it goes dark because the auto sencer turnes the lights on on there own... please help me!!!

hi, i have 2000 clio 1.2 8v i have just done head gasket and timing belt, put the battery back on and it wont start ( no spark), then i noticed the immobiliser light does not come on at all, also the windows dont work, do you know if the uch would affect both of these things? it has a new coil pack also

So If I read this correct the 'Decoupling Capacitors' do the negative switching for the relays mounted on the outside of the UHC
