Timg belt change on 1.2 8v

I bought a 1.2 last febuary after selling my 16v and its got no service history with it. Its a 98 model on 45k and i'm thinking a timing belt change might be due.

How much is the going rate for this and do reno do a kit?

If your going to do it yourself its easier to get a lift and lift it up a bit. I went to k-tec to get mine done for around 350 tops I believe?! They fitted new timing belt and new tensioner. Yes reno do a kit.

If its only done 45k you dont really need to worry about it yet though!

Yeah but doesn't it go by age and milage - whichever coems first?

Mines low mileage but is 7/8 years old

Its every 72,000 miles or 4 years but they say half that if its had a hard life or lots of stop/start driving.

Renault do a kit with the belt and pulley, I got mine done at 71k with the aux belt for £120 at my local garage who specialise with Renaults.

Ive seen quite a few people on this site who have had theirs snapped just after 72k.

If it was me I would get it done.

i did mine myself...the kit cost me £65 for tensioner and belt. its not hard to do. simply put a trolly jack under the engine to support the weight and you'll be fine...

Its is easy on the D7F, it tells you how to do it step by step in the Haynes manual.

Mine broke at 68900 miles. Recently read an interesting article on the Honestjohn website that said u should do the belt, tensioner & waterpump every 36000 miles without fail on the D7F engine. I have just done a major overhaul on mine, 8 new valves, valve stem oil seals, cam oil seal, skimmed head, all new gaskets, belt & tensioner, waterpump, thermastat. It's now running fab!

I've found a supplier with unbeleivable prices - Headgasket set with bolts + 8 valves delivered to my door for £70. Waterpump, thermastat & tensioner for £52 to my front door! PM or email me for his details.
