Throttle stuck WIDE open

  1997 Clio 1.2 8v Paris
Went to pick the Clio up tonight, cash in hand and all that ready.. all taxed and insured. Pulled up the find the bonnet open with the throttle jammed open. Literally as soon as you turn the key and it turns over it build up to about 5 and half thou, stays there and can drive without touching the throttle pedal. When you turn car off the return spring seems to be in working order, not tested throttle pedal for smoothness when car is off though.

Any ideas what this could be?

sounds like it is a problem with your idle control valve ( stepper motor ) which is on the throttle body, common problem on these. The only problem is you cant buy them from renault they come all as 1 unit including the throttle body which is mega ££££££££££. Try looking on ebay seen them sold individually on there b4

if it is the idle control valve, remove it, soak it in carb cleaner (Or hot soapy water) dry it off, soak it WD40 and refit. I've done it to two cars now and it works a treat.

Was about to say it could of been that, glad its ok.

hould take the throttle body off and give a good clean if its that dirty. The car will probably be a lot smoother and more responsive after it.
