Temperature problem 182

I hace recently developed a problem where the engine has got to temperature then it will suddenly drop down to below a quarter on the temp guage and increase the idle revs as it thinks its cold, where in reality it is hot ie hour on the motorway. Any ideas?? Thanks

its your temp sensor is u/s, common on 182, i had mine changed under warranty, needle has a mind of its own when its knackered . dont worry just get that changed .

This is failed coolant temp sensor. I just had this probelm 2 months ago. After replacing it, everything bocme normal as it should be.
