Subs and 6x9s

Yes they do. The air movement pushes the cone of the 6x9s outwards and cancels out the bass produced by the sub/s...creating distortion.

The 6x9s need to be in either the rear quarter panels or you can leave them on the shelf if they are boxed in. Better still ditch them for some half decent coaxials or components for the rear.

Ive been told that small cars, such as Clios, wont need any rear fill at all. All I need is a subwoofer powered by an amp, and a set of components up-front, also powered by an amp. Is this correct?

It depends what you prefer the sound of. I personally prefer rear fill but the optimum setup is a set of good quality components up front running off an amp and a sub running off another amp.

If you feel that the sound isnt quite what you want then try fitting some rears to create the rear fill...dont put them on the shelf though.
