Splashed the cash..

Hi all,
Well just signed on the dotted line for a Clio 172 Cup.... totally original with no mods and only 41,000 miles on it - it's being dropped off on Wed straight at a local Renault specialist for the cam belt etc to be done as it was last done in 2008 (though only 10k miles ago), and a service but car had been SORN'd for 4 years, though plenty of paperwork prior to then, the owner hadn't skimped on upkeep
Had been looking for a car to tinker with as a track project (we currently track a couple of Porsches) now I've some time on my hands - but this one looks so spot on and original that I'm in two minds...
Car drove really well, and sailed through MOT with no advisories (after initially failing on a couple of bulbs gone)

Looking forward to driving this, on road and track... pics to follow, though I'm sure you know what they look like...

sounds a gem, shame to mess with it at all and tbh any un reversible mods will devalue it imo!

I wouldn't track a low mileage minter, there's plenty of sheds around for that.

Low mile mint cups are going to be going up in value over the next few years.

This.

How many 5 Turbos were modded to oblivion? It's the minters that are now selling for five figures.

Seems like a gem tbh which is rare for the Cup's as they do get butchered for Track work then Stripped and Scrapped, so pretty please keep it original, oh and get some pictures up

Yeah, that's the one - didn't pay that for it though  the garage was a bit cheeky showing had a cam belt change - yes it did, but 9 years ago...
Happened to be in the area so called in on the off chance - glad I did as box of receipts that laid rest to the concerns that others raised in the other thread - receipts from main dealer for the clock being changed; get the feeling from the the box of receipts etc that the owner was a main dealers dream.

Even if it had a rough early life seems ok now

Hi does it state why the original clocks were faulty.I remember this car being 5495 in summer 2015

Thanks for all the inputs guys, both positive and warning :)

Suppose proof of the pudding will be when I've had it a while and had a good poke around but I'm comfortable
My justifications to myself on some of the questions over the car, that were also raised on the other thread
- clock replacement - I had one go faulty on an 18 month old Aston so sh@t does happen - main dealer receipt for replacement.- doubt they would have splashed main dealer rates if trying to make a quick buck clocking the car - and overall condition of interior/exterior reflects the mileage
- front springs - a quick google shows a number of cases of this 'just happening' - again main dealer receipt for replacement and looked fine on inspection
- the 'MOT fail from hell' on the rear brakes and bearings - more main dealer receipts but wonder if this was 50/50 MOT overkill (dust in rear bearings again not unheard of on these) and the old rear brake MOT confusion for Cup cars - again main dealer sorted and passed MOTs since with no issues and car stopped straight and true and no nasty noises
- stored for 4 years - well that's not that long - it's in for a service, belts, water pump, dephaser and brake fluid as soon as I get it at a specialist and other possible perishable parts (bushes/boots etc) I'll work through as I get to know the car; interior is unmarked too.

A small gamble? Perhaps, but even with the work I'm having done I got it for less than advertised. So not bad, tho perhaps top end, for an unmolested one of these that's had everything done. If I find something over th coming weeks months then I've possibly paid a little over the odds - but then allows me to get creative from an unmodified car doing exactly what I want rather than unpicking someone else's good work that may be different to what I want to do.

I'll keep you guys up to date though, car's being dropped off straight to the specialist next Wed and I pick it up following Tues as away that weekend. Will let you know what I find, both good and bad, and hope to meet some of you at meets or trackdays (even if I decide to keep it original it would be remiss of me not to use it as intended once in a while), tbh looking forward to having a car I can work on.....

ok folks, picked the car up from RenaultSpeed in Farnborough this morning - they'd done the belts etc and gave it a look over whilst i was away - happy to say a clean bill of health and looks as straight and original as I'd hoped - so gave it a full tank of super and took it for a blast - loving it - in theory so much less power and speed than what I've been driving over the past few years, but a great grin. And it's TINY!

Do need to swap the seats out though - but in a reversible way - as not great on my old back

Also, any recommendations for DAB/BT adaptors?

It sounds like the car has had a fair amount of love and money poured into it at some stage. Sometimes you need to dig a little too get to the truth.
Glad to hear it's been given a clean bill of health and you're enjoying it, but where's the pics?

Well here's the requested pics, now tucked up in the garage with other other 'toy' :)
All I've done so far is change the stereo for a DAB/BT model - the joins of being self employed is I need to be able to take calls. A friend of mine has a proper detailing outfit so off to see him next week about getting the paint sorted - nothing wrong with it per se, but some correction wouldn't go amiss - and to get the calipers refurbed and back to the blue
