Sim City (5)

Created a new city with a mate earlier, before I knew it it's 1am...

Tips/Bugs learned from previous cities:

* Only use streets
* Don't upgrade to the bigger police/fire/health stations (by selling the old ones) - they bug - I'm on 2 Clinics, 1 Fire station and 1 Police station, no issues at all.
* Fking parks everywhere to get High value
* About 80% Residential, 10% Commercial + 10% Industrial, then the rest on specialist buildings.
* Expo Center is a license to print money.

Oh btw I think SimplyGames have it for about £35!

I always wondered if it's worth making a plot with little resources almost all residential so they commute to my other areas which seem to constantly demand workers

I did that, I've got around 250k people living in my city and they commute to the other cities by train and bus. So make sure you've got a decent public transport setup

My friend's city was about half the skyscrapers but had 40k pop, and very few Industrial places setup, so it still seemed to work for me :S

Very strange, but getting there, shame the layout is so damn ugly.

My main money making city

Then bulldozed the first city I made in the region to make it look cool

I do have an issue on the second of those cities with crime, I've put a few police stations in the crime hotspot areas and added more cars but I'm still having people leave because of crime. Anything else I can do?

I've found the best thing you can do is not don't upgrade to a precinct and ensure you have a high wealth pop, I still have one police station with only 2 extra garages in an 86k pop city (the one above).

I've also done the same with Clinics & Fire station, I only have 2 Clinics & 1 Fire station (max trucks) - there seems to be bugs with the "better" variants of those.

I had a nuclear melt down last night ffs. I now need to wait an age for the radiation levels to drop lol!!

I'm in a region with someone off here. No idea who though.

Probably a daft question, but will the Window's and OSX versions be cross compatible?

:( I hope they do, wouldn't mind being able to get on one of the CS servers.

I'd go PC but it's crap and my Mac is pretty much the best spec for the game so would be perfect for it.

Dual boot? Any Mac can run windows..

And tbh I can't see any reason why they wouldn't be compatible, having to write new server code just to accommodate for slightly different languages would be absurd!

Is that the Bootcamp malarky? I'm assuming then I'd have to shell out for a copy of windows and then the game, correct?

This is EA remember!

All about profit with them though right, so surely they won't reinvent the wheel redoing the server code.

We've already seen half of it is in Javscript, so won't be any issue with compatibility unless they are truly that retarded (just ajax calls to web services essentially), all they need is an environment/tool to run the JS as req'd.

I don't see what server code has to do with it. If they're being shitty they will just block your Sim City PC purchase appearing in the Mac Origin client. I'm sure there are no technical reasons as they've already stated Mac owners will be on the same servers and able to play with PC users, but I wouldn't put it past them artificially blocking your PC purchase appearing on your Mac.

Question what is this game like for a novice like me, ive never played one before is it quite easy to pick up??? And has the games problems largely been fixed?

Well I've played it and played it and personally I don't think it's a patch on SC4. I know it's a different game, ten years younger, new graphics etc, but it's just not satisfying or rewarding to play.

Just got this today its quite tricky to master at the moment how, do i find the clio sport region then???

  BG Clio 182
I was working on a city earlier and its not been saved how do you save them then??? The only way i can play is by creating my own game, ive tried lots of other servers but there is no land to claim, so im unable to join other peoples games?

I think thats a problem with the servers because im the same! If you find scott and join his game though, you should be able to join us

  Nissan 350z
I still wish they would fix the god damn traffic. Im sick of buses/cars etc getting stuck that make my city burn down because fire trucks are stuck in the tail back. I have to keep quitting out and reloading so it resets the traffic.

Oh and they have added some free and in no-way subtle DLC to the game! Nissan Leafs...

  Fiesta ST-3
Bored of this already, creativity is massively restricted.

Cities are far to small and they all look the same.

Good news for Mac owners

To Our Fans,

SimCity will be coming to the Mac on June 11 as a digital release via Origin™. If you have purchased SimCity for PC, either as a physical or a digital copy, you will receive the Mac version as a free digital download on Origin on June 11.

Via Origin, SimCity is cross-platform compatible, so all players will be able to play together across the same servers. You will be able to play both versions with the same Origin account, allowing you to seamlessly continue cities, achievements and leaderboard progress across the PC and Mac.

If you have purchased SimCity for PC, the Mac version has already been added to your Origin account. On your “My Games” page, hover over SimCity and click the info button. You will then see SimCity on Mac in the “Add-ons & Bonuses” section. You will be able to download and play the Mac version on June 11.

Sincerely,
The Maxis Team
