Sandpaper grits ?!

  MK3, 1.2. 16V
Okay so next week in gonna have a go at colour coding my bump strips, spoiler etc... Had a look at a few guides and thought it looked simple enough, however. My question is, does it really matter what "grit" sandpaper you use ? And if so which do I use ?

  Punto/Clio GTT
the lower the grit, the more coarse it is.

P40 should only be used for sanding fibreglass or big filler repairs.
P80 is for general filler repairs.
P180 is for fine filler repairs and going over P80 repairs
P240/P320 is general use paper, from finishing repairs/sanding primer to preparing old paint for new paint
P400/P500 is for sanding primer and preparing old paintwork

P800/P1000/P1200 is for wetsanding primer or wetsanding paint ready for fresh paint

P1500/P2000/P2500 is used for wet sanding old paint ready for new paint or wetsanding new paint ready to polish (mop)

Ok, so based on that info...

Sand the textured plastics with P240/P320
Sand the primer with P800/P1000/P1200 Wet paper
Then paint ?

Am I getting this right ? lol
