Rusted Spark Plugs

  RB 182 cup,astra sri
I am getting my belts done today and the garage phoned up to say that whilst they were doing it, they need to take a spark plug out (Not sure why this is required). They said that in doing so, they found the plugs to be quite wet and badly rusted.

Has anyone ever encountered this before or know the reason for it?

Cheers,

Craig

will be down to some clever soul jetwashing the engine. Yes seen it plenty of times, and it's normally a quite good source of a misfire

What garage is it in?

Is this a Reno dealer or a specialist?

Usually, pulling the plugs out is the "old school garage" method of finding tdc......like on CVH's etc

Surely with our spangly clio's, its all done by the tools, specifically the crank tool.

Hopefully they know what they are doing - and as a result are going to turn the engine over by hand a few times (so loose the compression with the plug out) with the new belt / tensioner on to ensure it all tracks straight & happy - rough as f*ck not to.

I normally do it 3 ways to make sure. Long screwdriver in plughole 1, line up the flywheel mark, and make sure the pin is in

its getting done at kenneth brown motor engineering in hillington, near glasgow. I have confidence in them. They have done many of these cars before including people off here. Not heard a bad thing about them.

It now means i need to replace the spark plugs at an additional cost that i really didnt need. he is checking the water pump and dephaser for me whilst he is doing it to see if they need done or not. fingers crossed they dont cos i cant afford it at the moment!!
