Roof bars - any particular part of roof to place them on a Clio mk2?

Hi. Just purchased a set of roof bars for my Clio mk2 - door (prior facelift).

This might seem like a stupid question, but I will ask. . Is there any particular part of the roof / door area for them to be attached to. or is it just a case of using good judgement. I notice at top of each door aperture (is that the right name :S?) below the rubber seal at the top there is a small preformed bulge (?!?).Could this be like an "x marks the spot" or is it just there to look pretty :S?

Does it matter? I will be getting hold of 2 bike carriers to put on the bars - so that is what will be on the top.

how many doors is it? the small bulge is where you put them. If its a 3 door, there should be a small down arrow triangle shaped thing at the top of the back windows.

It's a 5 door. So it appears that that is by these bulges? Thanks.
