On my old car the negative battery terminal hopped off for a second and the car naturally cut out. They obviously would have spotted this if it were the case but my point is it could be an electrical problem.

Its never been done as just a change on its own, i'm assuming its done on the 5yr service with the fluids etc that they do.. I don't pay much attention which is probably why I get shafted with ££!!

You don't get "shafted" it's your fault not the garages! You've been on here long enough to know about Clio cambelts.

Im not talking about the cambelt Gally, i'm talking in general. Again, getting quoted £400 for a CAT, when i got one online for £100, and stupid money for capacitor (sp.) etc.. When i search online and even with labour works out cheaper than i get quoted.

The fact i'm female, I think they assume i'll take their word for it, and won't find cheaper alternatives.

IMO, if you're not sure you a trust the garage or you don't think he's wised up F4R wise, I would seek a second opinion.

Is there anyone on here who can look at it for you.
Once the garage start pulling it to bit, you're in for a big bill even if the engine is fooked.

Budgie says his were new about 2 years ago, so worth getting new ones while it's being fitted? What am i looking at for new belts?

(questions galore)

You are looking at £100 to £150 for cambelt kit depends which one you buy and where from and £70ish for aux belt kit providing its a non cup etc

easy to fit with the correct tools and the engine out the car

Non cup? My car has cup packs so what would i be looking at? (Pretty clueless as you can probably tell..!)

As said, to the specialists it's an hour's labour or so to fit and time up the belts with the engine out of the car.

cup doesnt have air con so different aux belt

not sure how much it is but think its cheaper for cup aux belt as its a different set up. someone else will be able to confirm. I'd get them for peace of mind while the engines out the car.

Ohh i understand.. I have cup packs but it is full fat too.

Yeah thinking i should do that! It's all coming together nicely.

Just a shame that cars are so expensive!!

I'm so naive, as i have never had an accident or breakdown til this, i thought insurance covered mechanical faults / damage
