resetting ecu on a mk2 172

hi everyone will resetting the ecu actually clear faults etc etc how do you do it and do you take both terminals off..........how long do you leave for before putting back on many thanks my engine management light is on the car will not excelerate and splutters smoke out the back woooppppppssss!!!!! the car keeps stalling etc can someone come back to me asap

well i was under the impression that to reset it, you leave if dissconnected for an hour, but it sounds like it aint gonna work on yours.....

what lights are showing?

when i first turn the key all the lights go out then when you start car abs light serve light and stop light come on for about a second and then they go out..the car has been spluttering a bit today but when i came to drive this evening the car lost all power and was running rough very rough....the engine light then flashed and is now on constant when you start the car!!!! help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

hhhhmmm not sure, by all means disconnect the (-) on the battery for an hour or so, but i think the error codes need to be read by a garage....

bloody hell i cant blieve it only picked up yesterday and it was fine...the garage fitted some new tyres for me on the front could they have knocked something for the 3 lights as mentioned above to come on have seen previous posts about this....also one thing that worrys me the car was fine until i put some redex petrol carb treatment in the tank to try and clean the system could this really have damaged things further???? surely not hey?

might be worth dropping whats in the tank, and just putting a tank of optimax init?

just wondering if its a lambda/cat type fault, as i had a faulty plug on the probe closest to the engine that made it run really rough, as soon as the accelerator was pressed it was missing all over the place etc.....

is the orange emmisions light on, on the far right side of the dails?

hi guys thanks for that it is the right hand side symbol looks like an engine i take it it is the management light or am i wrong i thought the cleaning of the injectors etc would be a good thing!!! is this going to be costly to sort out...my problem is the same spluttering all over the place when you accelerate

Er they are supposed to light up briefly when you first turn it on, then they all go out. If there's a fault they stay on.

It's likely the guff you put in teh tank is causing it, wait till you've run through with a few tank fulls of fuel and see how things go.

i really think it is something quite bad i have just re con the battery and it started fine but engine light still on....right just to clarify when you turn the key for pre ignition all the lights come on and them go out when i acutally turn the car on the abs light serv and stop light come back on again very very briefly and then go out so dont stay on..........i cannot drive car to try and get rid of stuff in tank how do you reset things properly is it a renault job????????????

I'll say it again, the lights do come on and go off again so that's not the problem! The bumph you put in is likely to have caused issues, imho of course.

sounds like you put redex in with not a lot of petrol in the car? ive never used the stuff but ive heard of that happening.

shouldnt you put the full bottle in with a full tank or half the bottle with half a tank etc?

hi guys thanks for the response i put halp a bottle in with 3/4 tank how do i correct this issue? is there any way do i put more fuel in has the redex done alot of damage to the car????????????

just put mor petrol in, "should" be ok

i used 1/2 a bottle to 1/2 a tank (£20) it was fine

nope it stay on until reset, removing the battery won't work, needs to be done by a clip computer

just actually read the rest of the thread, sounds like you have a sensor fault of some description, off to renault you go!
