Real World Performance

LOL I must apologise for the strange way my posts are looking as im on the phone and typeing!! 2 things at once

OK break it up lads!;) This is only for comparison purposes. If we keep to the same method of testing, then it can be directly comparable with others who used the same method.

Just tried to keep gear changes to a minimum so theres less chance for errors and kept a steady rolling speed before booting the loud pedal so that people boot it at the same speed and so timing can begin as soon as you boot it.

OK Jon heres my final figures, I started timing at identical times with my foot starting to move on the accelerator:

Willie 2, 27,000miles, 1/3rd tank norm unlead, cat back magnex.

Temp: 14 deg

30-70 (Using 2nd & 3rd gears) Average: 6.46 secs

40-100 (2nd, 3rd & 4th) Average: 12.78 secs

These were done tonight on quiet roads so it was a lot easier and a bit colder!

Temp: 11 deg

40-100 (3rd & 4th) Average: 13.55

Also did some 30-70s using 20-80 acceleration but only timing 30-70 as Craggy has. Also Autocar seem to do it this way too!

30-70 (2nd & 3rd) Average : 6.24 Secs

  mk2 172

ah yeah, my williams does it in 12.2 with a passenger filimng, so pt that in ur pie and smoke it he he he with sh*t fuel

ok, heres my results for my 19 16v;

30-70 6.75secs with a stop watch(timed 3 times over same bit of road)

mods= gasflowed head, kent cams, standard ecu(zorst n filter)

havnt tried 40-100 yet as i was having sum fun with an audi s3.

Alright Craggy - you sort of lost me a bit. My best run out of the 8 40-100 was 12.37 with only me in the car. But my cars still young and needs run in yet;)LOL. Did yours have any mods when you ran it? and do you have before and after mod times? I cant really afford any mods but Rhyss time of 5.56 seems pretty amazing!

  mk2 172

put it this way mate, regardless of all this and that times it ran 1/4 mile a few times in 14.8, which is faster than any cup or 172 iv seen, or ctr. was running 15.0 when tot standard, which is still faster than the cups/172s iv seen watch out for 2lives williams, thats a real flyer

I dunno if I will ever to get that milage?! I think im getting it RRd in a couple of weeks which should be interesting.

172Man - I fully acknowledge the inaccuracies involved. I do find it slightly amusing that you are fully willing to believe that RPMs 172 reaches 100 in 14 seconds by using the same method of timing, but take the opposite view of this test:eek:....:p

  S2000

It was 16.5 anyway, dunno where he got 14 from?!

Ill try and do some runs with the AP tomorrow. Last time I did it in the wet I dipped under 7s to 60, i think thru the gears the 30-70 was 6.1!

teady - Ive been looking at RPMs video in a video editor and taking the time from the first frame of the video to where the shadow of the needle crosses the 160kmph the time is 15.044. If I move it forwards to where the actual needle appears to be pointing to the 160kmph mark, it is 16.407. Theres a decent inaccuracy for everyone....sh*t! We need to record the directon of the light falling on the instruments now......bugger!

I need an AP22 (see wanted section.....!)

i wasnt being too serious about RPMS time LOL. Suppose you cant convey sarcasm in text too well haha. although it looked quick. A williams 30-70 in 5.6 thats fast woah like night rider:eek:

Am going to do another one driving the opposite direction in case. It can be very hard to tell if it is slight uphill or downhill. I dont think my car can do 0-100 in 15.0:)

172Man - No idea whether or not that 30-70 seems quick. I timed myself 4 times as suggested backwards and forwards down the same bit of road (2 one way, 2 the other) and kept getting similar times. Ill have another go in the next couple of days and see if I can repeat it.

RPM - can you get your camera pointing straight at the speedo? Causes a bit of confusion trying to see where you crossed 160kmph due to the angle of the camera and the height of the needle. Could have been anywhere within a 1.4 second range!

Rhys

Well the figures are not of pin point accuracy, but as same model of cars are getting similar times all with a fraction of second of each other, them Im happy with that. It still makes for good comparisons that can be easily be done by everyone. Times so far:

My MKII 172, 2001, 14900 miles, full tank of Optimax, no mods

30 - 70 = 6.3 secs

40 - 100 = 13.4 secs

Teady172s MKII 172,

30 - 70 = 6.1 secs (wet)

Carlos Williams2, 27000 miles, 1/3 tank UL, Magnex CAT back.

30 - 70 = 6.49 secs

40 - 100 = 13.55 secs

Rhys Williams3, replacement panel filter, de-cat and Hillpower chip (from a Willy 2!)

30 - 70 = 6.44 secs

30 - 70 = 5.56 secs (3/4 tank of cheapo Morrisons petrol)

Jimbo1s R19 16V, gasflowed head, kent cams, standard ecu(zorst n filter)

30 - 70 = 6.75 secs

Craggys VTS,

30 - 70 = 6.2 secs (taken from 0-100 video)

40 - 100 = 15 secs (taken from 0-100 video)

Times from other cars would be great, modded and unmodded, so get your stopwatches out. Did this test when I had my Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo, 30 - 70 was 3.8 secs. 2nd gear is good for 75mph!

Clio 172 mk1 20 000 miles, k-tec exhaust, BMC panelfilter. 1/2 tank RON 98 12 celsius. Only able to do one 40-100. Drove both directions on the same stretch of road where i did the 0-100 movie.

30-70 40-100

1 6.47 13.472

2 6.272 -

3 6.373 -

4 6.263 -

5 6.244 -

I really believe its the toyos.. I know people may thing im stupid, but i think the rolling resistence is less even although they provide more grip on heavy acceleration (no knocking noise now) and round corners.. also my tramlining is all but gone, which I though was wierd.

I this was somehow proven, I can see why the contis are hated so much.

oh also I guess the gear change light must work cause when it lit up i changed immediatly.

oh bolls forgot to say that I have removed the spare wheel and tools inside it.. not that it will make a huge difference.

I think I am more confident about flooring it in first now. the knocking noise was terrible and I didnt like to accelerate hard in first never mind floor it.
