Rattling noise on idle?

  Fiesta ST200
I appear to have a rather dis concerting rattle coming from the top left side of the engine. Near where the pulleys would be.

The noise goes instantly when I raise the revs slightly. It isn't there when its cold, but sounds like a transit van when it's warm! It also seems to be a bit more lumpy than it should be.

Any ideas?

Ah right, thought you were getting/had a 200 for some reason!

If there is no receipt of dephaser pulley whilst the belts were being done i'd say dephaser pulley!

I'm with danny172 on that. Mine does same & is well overdue cambelt and dephaser change by 15,000 miles and 4 years. Yay.

If the belts are due then have it all changed (T/belt,Aux,Dephsr) it's costly but then you already know that lol.

The dephaser on its own from Renault is circa £150. Having a specialist do all the belts and dephaser will be around £500-600.

Renault will be £1000+. Did it not do it when you went to view/inspect it?

Yes it did a little but it seems to be more noticeable now it's had a long run. We have a technician on site at work who could carry out the labour.

The car seems especially lumpy too, could the 2 faults be linked?

Provided he has the genuine tools you can get him to do it. they are lumpy anyway. but that sounds like dephaser imo.

I'm getting him to source some genuine Renault tools :) he's an ex Ferrari master tech so he'll be fine :)

I remember when I took mine up to JMS and they pointed out the dephazer. When you rock back and forth past 2500 rpm with the car in neutral you could hear a kind of rattling noise and the car sounded like a tractor. Was ok when cold but once warmed up it sounded rough as. The lumpy idle is std tho like Dan says lol.
If yours sounds like any of the below - dephaser

I've got the same problem, sounds lovely and smooth from cold but once its warmed up it sounds like a really smooth diesel. Ok when I rev it up but warm idle just doesn't sound right and it's not the tappets.

I had my belts changed at Renault in April last year and its done about 5k since. Am I ok just changing the dephaser and keeping my current belts seeing as they are very recent?

renault do say to replace the belt if removed but its up to you, personally I would.

I'd question the mechanic/garage if they were happy to reuse a belt. Especially after that amount of time.

Why's that? It was replaced 10 months ago and its done 5k miles. The service interval is 5 years or 72k miles. Fair enough if its been on a couple of years....
