Right, well, as I seem to have some sort of disorder I now own this again. Surprisingly the wife has given me less s**t than @Djw Dave or pretty much everyone else I know! I've turned it down easily 4 or 5 times since selling it but then the price matched what its worth in the end so why not eh?

It would be fair to see its not had the easiest 4 months, or more accurately month since wee @Stu. sold it

Got a closer look at it today in the sun and its filthy! But its more the standard of work thats been done to it that needs rectified

And obviously the headlining that someone has also scratched a c**k and balls into!
One bonus though is the scenic shifter thats been fitted

Removed the Speedhunters sticker, the sunstrip and my old CS Saturday 13 sticker as well

And fitted my sabelt

As for future plans I'm not sure yet, the sills, doors, boot and various bits underneath are rusty so I'm probably going to go down the strip it, use it for s***s and giggles and then see whats what come winter.

Wowzers, it's like you sold it 4 years ago not 4 months looking at it there, looks like the person you got it off battered it 🙈
But this is all good, just means there'll be a bigger '''' when it's mint again, or at least had your stamp on it lol!

Up until last month it looked similar to how I sold it!

How come you ain't single yet?

Dunno, must be something else keeping her with me. Believe it or not (cos I barely do) she's happy I've got it back!

So not done much to this with it being a very busy weekend (daughters birthday) I got a chance to potter with the the RB and its a set of standard wheels and a clean away from being ready for sale now. Then quickly chucked some sportlines onto the front of the flamer and left the windows down all day to air it

So got a chance to potter with it yesterday with a bit of help from the apprentice

7CD864A9-4AC3-4E30-B6B8-E86433762EED_zpsbucrhpe9.jpg

The main aim was to fit the new aerocatches and try to clean up the previous job as best as possible. This is what I started with

Halfway through

Finished, it won't ever be perfect without a new bonnet so this is about as good as I can get it

And then removed the slam panel and all the aircon gubbins ready for fitting the cup alt setup. Also fitted the hid kit I bought from @Dr Jekyll ages ago!

Little bit more done today once I'd finished gardening (gotta love annual leave!)

Jacked it up on the pass side to get a decent look underneath and find any other concerns with it so gave it a clean inc the arches. Not one of those nonsense cleans where you make them spotless and get scared to drive it, more a 'get rid of all the mud and see if there's holes anywhere' sort of clean.

So after doing the arches and underside I popped the inner arch guard off and found the usual

B41FB4CA-27D6-49E4-AD2C-1B34E992BADA_zpsj1ds3nlg.jpg

But after a quick clean out it looks fairly solid at this end. So hopefully it's just the jacking point at the front and inner sill at the back on this side.

16A4B600-36E9-4CA2-B121-E6BC50479FC6_zpswh8t9tzo.jpg

But we'll see. No massive holes is a definite bonus at least. Hopefully do the driver side in the next couple of days.

Shitting hell, nearly 2 months since I've last done anything bar pushing it up and down the drive! It's been absolute bottom of the priority list with all the house stuff and the other few cars needing attention.

But tonight I realised I need to have it in a better state for moving it so got the pas belt on, sorted out the alternator wiring and swapped the lower inlet to one that has been matched. Only pics I took where of the inlets but I also put the bumper back on, note that I didn't say refitted...

Still nothing happening with this bar got round to the new house but the garage is full of s**t from the move that it's not in yet. It will be soon though.

All that's happened is I stuck the superleggeras on whilst the turinis are on the rb. Not sure about it which is just as well since they'll be going back on the rb! 16s look massive on ph1s for some reason.

Well this isn't much of an update really but for me its momentous! For the first time in my life I have a garage of my own and the clio is in it! Absolutely surrounded by shite but in nonetheless. Got it quite far over to 1 side but I think I'll have enough room to work on both sides when its in the middle.

Its definitely long enough anyway

Another shitey project and we'll be doctors in it.

Got sent out to the garage tonight by the wife cos I was too nice and warm on the sofa so I decided to poke at it. @Djw Dave gave me a non aircon bulkhead panel last week so figured I'd chuck that on. Ha.
2 hours later the whole cunting heater box was out the car, forgot about the 2 bolts inside and accidentally broke a bit so had no choice but to get it out. Tbh I'm not that bothered about weight saving like that but it forces my hand to get a non aircon heater box so I guess it's not a bad thing. Hope the connections are the same!

After that nightmare I thought I'd cheer myself up and finally get more than a cursory glance at the rust in the sills. Having seen the pics of @doug6488 flamer I have no intention of removing anything or grinding away to see the proper story, f**k that, ignorance is bliss!

So I chucked most of a bottle of hammerite kurust down both sides and brushed it around. As a bonus it's now also protecting one of my axle stands.....

Only managed to get 1 pic of the whole night cos I own an iPhone that switches off if it's too warm/cold/late/dark/scary.

Took today off cos I simply couldn't be bothered going to work!
So after making and fitting shelves in the house I went out to the garage and trial fitted the seat. I need to get the right bolts as it's just standard m8 and m10s I've got.

No.

Lalala I can't hear you.
This is my approach to the possible rot issue...can't see it then it's not there.....haha
Although looking at your picture of your inner sill this is similar to how mine were last summer. I decided tho treat them with a bit of Kurust and hammerite paint. Although I know it wont solve the issue but as it was slightly orange and not soft I thought I might as well.
I know I need to take my front arch liners out and have a good clear out of the crud like you did on yours and then sort my front jacking points out as they are a bit like cheese and non-existent, so I am hoping I don't ever need to use my boot jack!!

What is the plan for the Ph1? Make it more track focused?

Djw John

@KitsonRis Yeah I've poured a lot of kurust onto them and brushed it around a bit. Good news is my garage floor won't be getting rusty anytime soon...
Aye front jacking points have been fucked for most of my ownership tbh, never use them so never been bothered and now I'm too afraid to try!

Now that I've got the RB 182 as my daily and that the flamer would cost a bomb to get it up to the standard I would love it to be I've decided to use it for track and blasts. The RB is much more family spec than I've had for a long time.

Took another couple of poor pics just to document progress

So, heater removed as mentioned above, another non aircon one will get fitted, I'm not having steamed up windows ruining my fun!

Bit more done recently, got the workbench built, still loads to do to the garage but its mostly painting and making shelves

Today @Djw Dave came round and after procrastinating as long as we could we started poking at the clio. We swapped the rad over to the one I bought a few months ago, gonna get some Type D in the next day or 2, since they slam panel is removed we weren't happy with how much the rad could move around, especially at the top. SO we cut up my wheelbarrow and made some mounts! Dave also made one to secure the grill onto the driverside headlight. Then it turned out I don't have the right bolts (or more accurately cant find them! And the only M8 ones I had of a suitable length are 12.9 spec for seats! So now its probably the most secure ph1 grill around! Also trimmed the black grill down a fair bit.

The bumper needs a wee tweak on the passenger side but the front end hasn't looked as good as this since I hit a pigeon in about 2010!

No pics cos I've an iPhone and it doesn't like to work when it's cold but I've now done the front discs and pads and serviced the sliders and pistons. Noticed the driverside piston dust cover has a small tear in it but it'll be ok for now. Will order up the rebuild kit from big redd in time.
Also repositioned the horn and got it working for the first time in years! That's just so I can run the brake ducts once I've ordered them, already have the hose for it at least.

Next stage, rear brakes, that's gonna need calipers, discs, pads and possibly lines :(

Off work just now and finally felt able to get some stuff done to the car in wee fits and starts. Better than nothing though.

So since the last update I've changed engine and box oil, got a fan motor from a non aircon/recirc 1.2 which allowed me to fit the non ac bulkhead panel, scuttle and wipers again.

I've also done the rear brakes, 1 caliper has a snapped bleed nipple on it so I'm hoping I can get that out as I've managed to unseize both sides after a fair amount of effort.

Few other silly little things like a resistor for the carbon canister delete and sorting the rear light earth yet again.

And today I washed it! Chucked the superleggeras on cos why not.

Nice project. Shame about the rot. My ph1 is starting to rust there too.

Did you go for oem rear brakes or something else? I'm thinking about OEM discs with Carbone Lorraine rc5 pads. RC6 for the front with Brembo HC discs.

It's getting hard to find ones that aren't rusting, even the 182 is showing signs of going.

I always use standard on the rears, they do nothing and with so little weight in the back I want less force rather than more cos I don't want them locking up!

Nothing has happened to the car today but I did manage to get 2 coats of white on the biggest wall of the garage. Need to go over the bits the big brush missed but it's not happening tonight. It's definitely a lot brighter now, will be great when it's all done, I f**king hate painting!

Well I lost the fight with the bleed nipple :( but @Stu. was a ledge and sorted me out with a caliper when he should've been getting ready for a wedding. Saved me losing a lot of brake fluid! Got that fitted when I got back from collecting it and also fitted a fuel tank vent to the return pipe since I've got rid of the carbon canister.
I also started making deflectors for the brake cooling but only got one done, it's not painted or fitted so no pics of that.

Got the reg light fixed after many years sanding the connections.
To get it MOT ready I need to fit a harness, replace a rear brake pipe and then bleed the brakes and that's it. Plenty more I want to do but I'm pleased that I've got it this close.

IMG_9341.JPG

And retook the engine bay pics since they were so terrible last time!
