Powersteering pump - Received broken one from Renparts?

Hi Guys,

So I have a really loud power steering pump on my 182 non cup, I decided to finally bite the bullet and get it sorted. I bought a second hand one and booked in with Gaz to get it sorted.

Turns out I bought one from a CUP non AC car that has a different pump, s**t! Gaz very kindly offered to keep the car in bits for a few days while I tried to source a new pump. Found one from Renparts, very helpful on the phone, got it delivered next working day.

All good right?

To my dissapointment Gaz tells me he's not happy with the part because there is lots of play in the shaft and has had to rebuild the car with my original pump.
So I have A) pissed off my favourite mechanic, B) had my car off the road for 4 days and C) In the hole for about £300.

I totally admit this is partially my fault for being a r****d and ordering the wrong part in the first place.

Other than just getting a refund for the part, is there anything I can do to claim some of the labour back from Renparts? I dont see how a specialist can send out parts that are supposedly 'tested and in full working order' despite being visibly broken.

Don't be so stupid. They'll give you uour money back or offer an exchange if you send your faulty one to them but you'll have to prove it's the one you bought from them and not the dodgy one off your car.

So he got the part, your car in bits still.

New part was wrong again, fair enough. So he rebuilds your car with the old crap pump.

Might be time to get another mechanic. It makes zero sense

I get that, hopefully they'll just give me a refund then..

Thinking about it... it doesn't make sense, and he didn't ask me either. Could have had a recon pump there Wednesday. I'll ask him about it tomorrow when I pick up the car

That kind of mechanic would not be getting my custom. He should be going out his way to help you. Regardless of space you're still paying him!

Hi guys, massive shout out to to Gary Burnett as after all that he ended up charging me nothing for the work .

He has also sourced a genuine new pump and I have rebooked in for a later date

Hang on isn't he a Renault specialist
Yeah he is. To be fair hes done me a big favour by agreeing to fit used parts and then hasnt charged me a penny for after me supplying him with a wrong part and a broken part

I would send old part back to renparts and get Gary too put a covering note stating the wear on it etc

A lot cheaper than new then. I went with a new one from Gary. Everyone says they whine as standard but this one is silent.
How much was it new? We both tried renault dealerships and all were out of stock/ couldnt get one

If the op had stated who it was rather than 'gaz' then maybe things would have been a bit clearer.

  dan's cast offs.
who said the cup pump was different? just wondering as only ever heard good things about gary.

got to admit i was 99% certain they were the same and was even going to dig one out and double check until marks confirmed.

Gary said the pump was incorrect and the pump was sold as a 182 cup pump. It could be the seller fucked up and sent the wrong pump

I have both pumps in my boot, will take pictures after work.

Hi Guys, so here is a comparison of the two pumps. The 182 pump has the white sticker part no 7700840107 and the cup pump has a yellow sticker 7700840105. As far as I can see the parts are identical, even measured them and the appear to be the same in all dimensions. So im not sure whats going on. In addition they both have the same play that was pointed out to me, are they both knackered or is this normal?
