Power Steering Leak AND Completely Floppy Clutch on 182

  Arctic 182
Not having too much fun with the car at the moment...noticed it had developed a power steering fluid leak on Saturday, so had it up on stands to have a look where it was coming from yesterday and it is from the high pressure pipe (great!!). I've seen the Renault prices and there's no way I'm paying that unless theres no alternative....and I've seen a few people mention Pirtek on here. I gave them a ring today but said they'd need to see it to give me a price, so was just wondering if anyone has used them and how much the part would cost from them?

Secondly.....the clutch was fine before it went up on stands, and after I had finished I got in to move it and the pedal was completely floppy, absolutely no tension in it whatsoever..and I have NO idea how or why. Any ideas?

Any help much appreciated!!!!!

I take all mine to a local hydraulics specialist which normally results in a new flexible section and a couple of swaged connections.... around £35 + VAT

You will have to take the part to them though (As you would PirTek) and it will need to be fairly well drained of fluid to as no-one likes getting PAS fluid everywhere.

Thanks a lot. As someone who doesn't know a huge amount about what I'd be doing would you recommend it would be a garage job to get it off or is it fairly doable? Do you have a recommendation of any specific places to take it? As I see your from Nottingham and it isnt a million miles from me!

Cheers

Its an easy enough job to DIY as long as you don't need the car to get you to PirTek and back. If you do you're gonna be best off letting someone else do it for you.

I'd gladly do it for you if you fancied dropping it off but you'd have to leave it with me for a morning and we're already looking at late next week at the earliest to do it - After a rubbish September it seems everyone now wants their cars fixing  By all means get in touch via my website and i'll get you a price together.

you've probably just knocked the clutch cable off the fork, take the airbox out and look

high pressure PAS line is about £150 and a COMPLETE t**t to fit

Wouldnt even attempt to fix a broken pas pipe or use anything but an original item, just bite the bullet and get a new one fitted.

Why Matt? A proper swaged connection can handle pressures in excess of 500Bar which is more than the PAS circuit can supply. That's why they're used on JCB's and otehr industrial hydraulic applications... where do you think Renault UK gets them from? If it goes to a hydraulic specialist to be done and replaced properly there won't be any issues where as if you take it to "Bodge it Engineering" where they use non-armoured rubber hose not designed for hydraulic oils then yes you're asking for trouble.

Thanks again for the replies, is there any companies you could recommend that you know can do/have done a good job in the past?
And about the clutch, once I get the airbox off is it obvious what i'm looking at and where the fork is?

Cheers

I see where you're coming from... "once bitten, twice shy" as they say but i've never had any issues with the work Stapleford Hydraulics have done for me (ever) and I've sent a few bits to them including the PAS lines for my LHD R19 with quick releases in them.
