Poor ignition when warm

  Clio 172
Hi all,

Firstly I’ve had a little search through the forum but can’t seem to find much on this issue.

I’ve recently picked up my first Clio Sport 172, all belts and pulleys have just been replaced by a specialist.

From cold the car starts fine from the first turn of the key. However, once it has warmed up and is restarted it is very slow to turn over. It may take a few attempts of 5-10 seconds and even when it does start up it is more of a ‘rumble’ than the ignition which you would expect.

I have had the spark plugs out (Bosch Super 4’s) and all seem in good condition. I have cleaned up the TDC sensor and the problem still persists. My next port of call was maybe the Coolant temp sensor?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Has the starter still got the heat sheild in place? People don’t put them back on when changing starters as it’s fiddly but can cause the starter to overheat when the engines been run causing poor turn over.

As you’ve mentioned, CTS is a good place to start.

Thanks for your replies!

So I’ve replaced the CTS and am still experiencing a slow/poor ignition.

I’ve ordered some NGK plugs from K-Tec so will update on the outcome!

Thought I’d give this an update.

When I bought the car the guy said it had a misfire so replaced the injector which was faulty. I since discovered the the bag of bits which he supplied me with contained a full set of Renault injectors.

It seems that he had fitted a set of eBay non genuine injectors which caused it to run rough. I fitted the old injectors and discovered which one was faulty so bought a genuine replacement.

Car starts and runs great since.
