painting a rocker cover 172

hi, im not sure if this is the right section or not so please feel free to move the post.

Right im sure if read on here that you can use engine paint or some such but i now cant find the post. So what is ok to use on the plastic cover for it to last and also how much is a new one incase i mess it up :D thanx guys.

i think you mean the air manifold thing on a 172, if you do people polish them,

I'm going to either be using a heat proof primer (if i can find one) or just painting straight onto the engine cover with metallic paint, then lacquer.

yer im hoping to polish but i ment the plastic cover that goes over it. sorry
