Packet loss. (Watch dog should close VM down.)

Just need new internet yea?

Had 26% packet loss while using wireless, so i bought a patch cable and i'm still getting around that %. Speed is alright, but it drops out now and again and can become real anoying.

And it seems like 50mb customers are having even more problems - over capacity as useual with VM. However they get no packet loss etc.

The only downside which has just happened recently is VM have started to throttle Newsgroup/Usenet traffic on the XXL (50Mb) package, even over some of the SSL ports :(

Dont really want to go back to midnight downloading!

Was considering upgrading to 100Mb when it becomes available in my aera but if that is throttled aswell then it will be pointless!

That would tend to suggest that you don't actually have a packet loss problem in general, only to the test server you posted in your first post, which give the way the internet works, can and does happen. Once you get past hop 6 in your pathping you are outside of the VM network anyway.

What I suggest now, is that you get the other end of you Skype call (as IIRC that was what this was all about) to give you their IP address (get them to go to www.whatismyip.com) and then run pathping between you and them. then that will show you where on the route between that you are losing the traffic.

Anything that loses 100% of pings can be discounted, as that will just be a device that does not respond to pings (not everything does)

They have throttled connections after 4gb of download for over 2 years now. I dont know if 50mb has only just started being done but 20 was over 2 years ago.

Its one of the reasons i left them, why pay for a super fast connection if you cant really use it. Decided to save my money and sit on a sky 4mb connection instead

  BMW e46 320 Ci Sport
50mb was exempt up until apparently this month or something, I've never been throttled on XL

  330i, Alfa 147 & SP1
See now that's a joke. Why offer these great speeds and then say oh actually tough now

  182FF with cup packs
Why's it a joke? Unless you're actually paing for a full blown business line, pretty much every ISP will have some sort of throttling and a mximum download limit (yes even those that say "unlimited usage"). Virgin is one of the very few who actually advertise exactly what and when they do it.

As you are going to be throttled anyway, I'd much rather have it done on a rolling basis knowing that if I rape my connection for a couple of hours and hit my limit, that I'll generally be throttled for a maximum (in Virgins case) of 5 hours. rather than hitting my limit halfway through the month and being throttled for the rest of the month.

It's basically to stop people from hammering the s**t out of their network during peak times, and the upload limits are pretty much to prevent people running servers on domeestic broadband lines. Anyway, between 8pm and 10am you aren't throttled at all.

  BMW e46 320 Ci Sport
Don't agree, unlimited broadband at a specific speed shouldn't be called unlimited broad band at a specific speed. It should be called Restricted broadband or something.

  Tesla MP3 2021
Yeah, thats a good point. Might have to consider that if that start throttling all other SSL ports.
