Overheating

  Monaco 37/468
I bought a buffing machine today from Halfords that runs off the ciggy lighter. So I had the engine running (bearing in mind it's been 26 degrees here today) for about an hour idling to power the buffer, and noticed a bit of steam coming from underneath the bonnet. By the time I got to the key to switch the engine off it had got considerably worse, and steam was pouring out like mad. The fan was working overtime to cool it down for a while before this, so that's not nackered.

Thankfully the car is fine, and thank god it was steam and not smoke!!

Any ideas, or was it just 'cos there was no air been blasted onto the radiator?

Cheers guys...
