Overheating, Battery Light, Heavy Steering. Help!

  133T
Morning all

After all this snow calmed down I dug myself out, it's not been pretty since.

This is the timeline to what's happened

Engine started first time but smoke filled the inside of my car through the heaters
Turned car off and cleared more snow from car incase there were blockages
Battery light came on and car wouldn't start
Fitted new battery and went for drive. Battery light still on and temperature gauge went to max after 10mins
Steering felt very heavy
Checked coolant, this is ok as far as the visible tank goes
Pipe going into radiator is hot
Checked oil, looked low so added some. Hasn't made a difference
Sitting idle the electrics went haywire and the car cut out. Heaters etc dont work

Any ideas would be appreciated please

Yep. Accessory belt has departed. Don't run the car, you'll have no water pump.

In fact, from what you've said, you've probably done all the damage now anyway. You head gasket hates you now.

You drove it to the garage, too?

You should never drive a car that gets hot quickly. Ever.

You've probably doubled your repair bill by driving it to the garage. Should have just called AA or similar.
