Optimum size wheel and tires for sprinting.

Optimum size wheel and tires for sprinting.

Running a Clio 182 cup for sprinting and now looking form some new rubber I have to run tires from the 1A list.

Only from experience and not just “my mate runs these”

Question 1 should I stick to 16’s or drop down to 15’s?
Question 2 What tire?

LIST 1B

  Chase Racing Clio
I can tell you for a fact that 15s will be a lot better for your application and the tyre prices for 195/50R15s are far easier to digest than those of 195/45R16s. We're allowed List 1B in our series, so we've just got some R888s for now, I'm not too clued up on the best tyres in the 1A list. With sprinting, you literally want the softest tyre you can go for I'd guess. (Short heat cycles) Surely someone will be able to tell you the answer.

Hi mate

Where do you compete as some clubs allow 1A and 1B tyres ?

I have used T1R's which are ok in the wet when fully treaded or ok in the dry when buffed down to around 3mm.

I currently use AD08's on 15" wheels and these are are probably the best 1a tyres which give great wet weather grip and excellent in the dry. Most of the guys that have been using them recon on improved times of around 1- 1.5 secs and I would agree with this.
Have a look here at my runs last year , with Ainree being very wet.

I'd chose 15" as they're less wheel/more tyre than 16" (so saving weight) and the tyres will be cheaper.

I don't know list 1A (and all the nice R888/A032/A048 from 1B aren't there!) but I've heard good things about Yoko AD08.

Definitely 15" as it will reduce the gearing over a 16" wheel. I would go for the Yoko AD08's as all ready suggested. They are a halfway house between road and track rubber

I'd go for the AD08's on 15's , I will be running these when the T1R's are down to the limit, I'm currently running the stock 16" Turinis with T1R's on and TBH don't have any problems with them, best way to find out is run 16's with the T1R and then the 15's if you don't like the way they feel.

Regards Russ......

Have any of you tried 205 50 r15? or is this size not allowed? (I don't compete, I'm just curious).
