Only one reason to have the 197



insurance = the same
running costs = very close to each
tax = the same

if you're not too fussy option wise you can get either for a very identical price

But apples for apples, the Megane is the more expensive car. It stands to resason that some buyers look at the Clio, at least thinking that the Megane is out of their budget. It's no bad refelection on either car, but IMO it's basic common sense to accept there is likely to be some truth in it - hardly worthy of mention though really :)

Even if people did buy a 197 because they can't afford a R26, so what?? I bought a 182 because I couldn't afford a V6/Exige/evo or whatever!

i just went to the renault dealer near me to look at a 197 cup, and even the salesman said he prefered the 197 over the 225 for driveability!

cannot get used to the ass of the Meggy, it looks like somebody took a hacksaw to it. It's supposed to drive like hell though, this makes it a nice car..

I saw the R26 drive by the other day and i nearly sprained my neck doing 70mph
Love the looks of the Clio, LOT better than the Meg

Say argument with the Cayman and 911.

Cayman, speaking from a dynamic point of view is a much better car than the 911 and is cheaper.

The problem with people who would say the Cayman is gay, cheap, just a tin top boxster etc is that they've driven neither. I'd have a GT3 or GT3 RS over a Cayman S all day long but when faced with a top end cayman s with all the options ticked and a base C2 I think I'd struggle to justify the C2 personally.

The cayman would be the quicker, less worrying prospect point to point on a winding road and only a skilled driver would be able to exploit the extra power a non S C2 has over the Cayman S. I drove all the current models round Bedford and while I'd like to think I'm a fairly competant driver I couldnt help feeling I'd always have a voice telling me something might catch me out in the 911. That was only after driving the C2 round the skid pan with the traction off granted though.

To be honest I find German and Jap cars a bit, hmmm, how to explain, 'clinical' ? They seem to be technically very good, and built very well - but I dunno they just lack a bit of character for me. Whereas I drive the Vee and it feels like it has some like, 'soul' ? I'm probably not making any sense but I know what I mean heh. I test drove an Alfa 147 GTA as well before the Vee (quick, QUICK car), and tbh I'd have been comfortable giving that a name :)

and the whole cost thing in this thread is also beeollox.

the megane is £20,000. its insurance group 17b, its usually 27mpg, its 205 car tax a year which will soon be more, and its got 8" x 18" low profile tyres which are £122 each. some have got there r26 for £16.5k-£17k which in the 'grand' scheme of things may not be expensive but for an average person now with say a £800PCM mortgage and bills to match along with a £250PCM fuel bill its not exactly a cheap car either ;) i.e the badge and image make it seem cheaper but its same as the classless Golf GTi for example

im guessing the reason i quoted this post was that it amuses me that people think that a caymen is a cheap car second to a 911 lol lol..
there is a Cisco Specialist consultant i know who earns some nice money i.e more than 95% of people on here id guess with the 5year old 2.016v french supermini flol. his choice was to spend £57k on a caymen.. the price of a 3bed terrace round my way of a few years ago..

(he gets 27mpg i.e same as the megane)


so the meg may be cheap to some but id guess to most both the R27 and R26 would be much appreciated on their drive, not least because they both offer amazing performance per pound.

the snobery on here is so ironic at times its piss funny.

Id say the 197 looks about a million times better than the megane. It can't loose the stigma of being a fat arsed hatch.

How is a Cayman dynamically better?

There both different cars, i fell in love with the R27 in the showroom and i didn't even consider the Megane, i think the Clio looks better too. Just my opinion. I could have got a R26 for not much more, or a year old one for the same price as my clio. But i chose the Clio because i like it believe it or not lol
