Olympics lens advice

Off to the olympics tomorrow for the 400m final, so in the olympic stadium, taking the 70-200 lens for obvious reasons, but which other should i take, my 17-55 IS f2.8 or my 10-22 wide angle?

Thinking the wide angle will be good to get the stadium in maybe, but the 17-55 is such a good wall around lens, not taking all three though, too much weight and space, only allowed a small bag.

What do you think?

I've never used any of them but I think the 17-55 would be wide enough IMO. I have a 19-35 and it seems to do the job OK. But the 10-22 would be amazing outside of the stadium I think to try and get it all in. You going on your own? If not, could the other person carry one for you?

Tough choice. I would take the 17-55 though personally.

Haven't they stopped people taking certain cameras and lens in? Heard/read things from some people about a 30cm rule.

indeed there is a 30cm rule, but thats quite a lot, i measured my 70-200 earlier on the 7D body and its well within, unless i use the lens hood, then its on the limit, i just won't have the lens hood though.

10-22 is a bit niche. Take the other two.

But I wouldn't bother taking two lenses. You'll waste all your time trying to take pictures over someones head and you'll miss what you're supposed to be watching.

Take the 10-22

17-55 is a horrid focal length on 1.6x bodies, may as well use a point and shoot.

But thats just me - of course the 24-105 and 24-70 are massively popular. So maybe i'm just missing something ;)

The 10-22 will be better to get shots that really capture the atmosphere from around the grounds and inside the stadium and to show the entire scene in one frame.

think i'll go with the 10-22, can always crop then anyway, my favourite is the 70-200 so that'll be most of the time, plus i'll need it to see anything in the stadium probably, just would like to get some interesting shots of the outside of the arenas.

Going up the orbit too, so a nice panoramic from there will be cool.

think it was the right choice, got some decants pics with both lens's, will take the same to the handball and diving on saturday i think.

I have uploaded them to Facebook, so I'll post a few, I was fairly happy with the results.

Those were obviously of the athletics, then the next ones are from the handball.

it was really challenging shooting the handball as i was behind the goal and had a big net in the way, so had to pretty much shoot manual focus.

Not amazing shots, but i was trying to enjoy the park, not just spend all my time framing the right shot etc.

Will put the diving ones up tomorrow, they're probably the ones i am more happy with, even though i was at the other end of the pool to where the diving was, and with the light conditions, still managed to get a couple of decent mid dive shots.

I took my brother to the athletics, and he was gutted he didn't make more of an effort to get tickets, he wanted to go and see lots more, I'm glad I went to a few events, would have liked to have gone to more, but it's fecking expensive.

All the pics were taken as per above with the 10-22 or the 70-200f4L, I was impressed again by the 10-22 at its lack of distortion at the wide angle, I believe the sigma one suffers more from this. It was definitely the right lens to take though, with the huge buildings and being great for inside the venues etc.
