Hello,

Thought I would register as looking into getting a 172 this comin Sept/October. I like the look of the Mk 2 but from reading various posts the Mk1 seems pretty good?

Does the Mk1 have Xenons or are they just Halogen Projectors?

Also anything to look out for when buying a second hand 172?

Phase 1 has double optic lamps but they are halogen not H.I.D xenon style lamps. Welcome to the forum.

4k rattle on exhaust common problem, they rattle so expect that,interior door handles tend to crack, silver door things on mk2 phase 1 get scratched! a main other one is serv and ABS light coming on. just a case of taking it to renault for a quick ish fix. usually abs sensor or thing under the brake pedal!

welcome mate why dont you test drive them both then you can decide i personally prefer the mk 2 which ive just got about 3 weeks ago and im loving it. best thing ive ever bought.

Yeah I sway more toward Mk2 tbh, other reason aswell as there tends to be less miles on these-But as long as there is a Mk1 with good service history around I not too fussed.
Plus I love Xenons!

Ive got a Mrk2 172 - but never driven a Mrk1 so wouldnt be able to comment.

I suggest driving both aswell.

welcome to the club dude, i have a mk1 172, best RS 172 you can get,

i would recommend getting a mk1 there arent as many compared to the mk2
