New owner, an interesting 1st day

  Clio 172
Hi everyone, new to this forum, so apologies if I post anything in the wrong place.

Yesterday I purchased my first ever Renault Clio 172. Previously had lots of Golf GTIs. I had a really small budget of £1500 and was pleased to pick up a car on ebay with just 90k on clock and all belts changed. Car seemed in pretty decent condition, took it for a quick drive, sounded ok although seemed down on power.
I then drove to Oswestry, (about 30 miles) and during the drive the car started to sound really sick and power steadily decreased ...until it stopped! I had to abandon it on the A5. Having read this forum I've found a contact BTM performance in Birmingham - hopefully Fred can sort it out and there are better days to come.
Appreciate this is all my fault, budget was too small, and tbh I have no knowledge of car mechanics
But the forum seems a good place to gain info so I'll keep reading up

As if it's your first day and the forum has already helped you lol

Hi and welcome, Fred should have it running right in no time at all :)

You're only down the road from me as well.

I need to pull my finger out and sort a meet out.

not saying this is the problem with your car, but I have heard a few similar stories and its been that the engine dropped a valve. After repair, cars have been reliable. Anyway, hoping whatever the issue is with your 172, its easily sorted. Let us know how you get on

I must've missed that
Yeah Scott, Fred is emigrating to Australia. He was on FB clearing out all his parts which means he's definitely going.

Woody, I've never been to Birchdown in Malpas, but my personal recommendation would be @MicKPM His place Diamond Motors are based in Long Eaton (Between Derby and Nottingham), but the man is a perfectionist and you know when you get the car back, it will be back to potentially its best and he won't add extras on there for the sake of it. He is a trader on here, but I've tagged him in this, I know its a trek to Long Eaton, I've done it from Telford, but the trip is worth it, honestly.

Anyone can call themselves a RenaultSport specialist and having been part of the Clio fraternity for years, I've seen 'specialists' come and go I would only recommend people I've used or know. I definitely know Mick and he is only specialist who I would let work on my car.

Hope that helps.

Sounds about as good as my first day in 182 ownership.
Had to get recovered from town back home! Turned out to be the coolant sensor, which was cutting the engine out to "save" it. from over heating. Fingers crossed yours isn't to expensive to sort out ; )
