N/S driveshaft and box oil question

Quick question on the n/s driveshaft. I changed both a while back and drained the gearbox oil and refilled it. Anyway I'm planning on doing a full front suspension and brake upgrade and was wanting to take the hub off for painting and sand down and de-rust paint the drive shaft. If I pull out the driveshaft I know people say it will lose gearbox oil, but will it pour out and all get lost or will it just be a little? I still have 2l of box oil left from last time. Or is it worth just being extra careful and supporting the shaft and working on it while still connected? I don't want to go out and buy say another 1l if I don't have to.

Mine poured out, I just drained it into a bucket and then put it back.
