My trip to Renault today - contains Emotion

  172 cup
So went along to Renault Harrogate today as car was due in for the Bonnet (recall thingy)

They did a free health check and below is the list of stuff that came back:

WTF

2 New tyres are due
brake fluid leaking and has contaminated the wheel clyinders and brake shoes
cambelt due

Nice hey - considering the car is worth f**k all.

Gutted is not the word.

ETOTM too - some guy in Morrisions carpark definatly felt my rath this afternoon

Just as well you had it checked. It all sounds like general wear and tear, which is to be expected if the miliage is high. Were you unaware that the cambelt needed changing?

WTF!?!? They do a FREE check on your car, then tell you half of it needs replacing.

lol. Have a think about it.

Push it over a cliff, film it and send it off to You've been framed, as a "hilarious accident" you'll be £250 better off

thats not bad really, cambelt it a pain but expected, tyres you should keep an eye on (they are the only thing keeping you on the road) and the brake fluid leaking you couldnt have known, but a strip and clean would suffice for now

weren't you planning in upgrading to a 172? Whats the situation now then, are you going to shell out on this car, or just get rid of it?

:S If there is brake fluid leaking, thats kind of an emergency.... IE if VOSA stop the car and see that, they would impound it instantly classed as un roadworthy.

Needs shoes and cylinders, no biggie!

Arnold Clarke, Warrington carried out a "free" health check on my 182 Cup when it was in for a new front foglight a few years ago.

They told me that, happily, the spare wheel still had plenty of tread on it.

Last time I used that dealer. They offered my two new tyres at cost as way of apology.

Just tell them thank you very much and take it to a proper garage for a second opinion on what REALLY needs doing.

Id run it till it runs no more unless ofcourse its stuff thats going to fail an MOT, you might get 2 years out of it!

Wouldnt bother my arse getting belts changed if its old as jesus

tyres - it amazes me that no-one keeps an eye on these, especially considering the 3 points and fine you can get for each illegal tyre
cambelt - to be expected for the age of the car
brake fluid contamination - just unlucky tbh

but on the plus side, tyres will be cheap - looks like you have Megane wheels on it so guessing at 15's and assuming 195/50's are about £100 or thereabouts for a pair. cambelt can be done by a backstreet garage or by a specialist for a fraction of the cost renault would want.

not all doom and gloom really!

Im not surprised they tell you that, its free.

Theres a garage I used to use as its near work.. Took it their once when it needed engine mounts, they told me it was the door card ratting! lol.. Some places should just be avoided.

25 point check is done for a reason if the brakes had failed up the road the first thing you would of said is its just been into your garage and threatened legal action.
Cambelt- Its in the service book, 5yrs/ 72k whichever is first, if its a 2000 its coming up for its second one, mine is.
Tyres- your responsibility at 3 points a corner they are doing you a favour.
