130bhp running 8 PSi and setup to run more. I loves it.

  Renault 5 Turbo
My mate had a classic mini years ago when we were in college, 1295cc fully lightened and balanced, red lined at 8000rpm and kicked out around 95hp (not a lot) but in that car it was so much fun :) we used to go pizza delivering in it ;)

The only thing i dont like is the bonnet vent but the engine fouls otherwise..:(

Thats a lovely job, conservative on power for a turbo but that should give it nice drivability and life. Thats one of the nicest jobs i have seen, i hope my paint job comes out like that, it looks great.

I am finding it quite amusing that iv been on mini forums for 10 years and im seeing better quality stuff on here :)

They look like the Huddersfield Mini Spares ones but nt sure theirs are that dark. Not road legal either unfortunately you will need reflectors, they look good on a black car tho, normally standard look best on a mini but i like them.

I'll ask tonight and report back. Was tuned after the rebuild by Slark Race engineering and made 130bhp im told and could have pushed more?

  172 Ph1, 1972 Mini 1
Yeah that build could easily push more than 130. I would have thought it would get to 150 with relative ease, problem at that power is rods, rockers and gearbox. 130 is a sensible figure tho as you won't be pushingso much torque to wreck boxes.

I assume it's running a straight cut box and drops?

Does he go to the riviera run being in Somerset? I'm rebuilding mine for there next year so I'll have to keep an eye out for him.

Teg lumps ruin the balance plus this has still got around 180bhp per tonne..haha

This is very true, every engine transplant mini iv ever been in has lost the mini handling charachteristics. Not really a problem if your not used to minis but just don't feel good when your used to them.

I'm running 125 hp and a weight of 680kg so about 183 bhp / tonne. The main benefit is reduction in rotating mass and the small wheels. Acceleration with a lightweight fly is great.

Bloody nice car that and with a nice motor to suit.

I wouldn't think it would knock out much more than 130bhp, reliably anyway. Its pretty much a fresh MG Turbo lump over bored. Doesn't have an 11 stud cylinder head either so you'll be waving good by to head gaskets on a regular basis if you start throwing boost at it. A+ rods won't complain on the lesser side of 180bhp and the rockers aren't an issue either....unless it sits at 7000rpm all day long.

Can't beat them on 10's in my opinion though.......and with a 3.65 diffs ;) (He'd know what torque steer is then lol)

Mmmm interesting.. only cos Im building one with a Teg motor. How can this be proven? from what I have read there isnt really a great deal of difference.. maybe a bit more understeer?...

I must admit I have seen a few A series hill climbers with simliar power to ya mates but with serious £££ spent on them.. only to perform as well as what Im building, however they dont have the reliability..

Nevertheless - a great looking mini and credit to ya mate on achieving what he has..

Costs £10,000 for a 140bhp N/A Miglia engine so your not wrong. Costs half that for a more reliable 200bhp turbo A seires.

Can't beat the Vtec mini's when it comes to reliability and big bang for buck but webers, Roller rockers, scatter cams, EN40B cranks do it for me lol

I have built mine with 125hp for about 6k on the engine normally aspirated, in order to do that I'm running a miglia crank, swiftune rods, everything lightened. It's topping out at about 8400 hence my rocker issues. Got the med low distortion rockers now which are fantastic. Reliability is an issue tho, it's running 11.5:1 compression so head gaskets are an issue even with 11 studs. Also using a 7" manifold and a dcoe45 means it will ice up from about 3 degrees downwards.

The turbo engine above could do with an sw5 cam to liven it up a little maybe if he wanted to push it.

As for teg lumps in a mini like I say if your not used to driving a mini you prob won't notice that much but when you are you can feel the difference. The balance becomes even more front heavy, they understeer more but for me feel worse on the brakes as the back tends to wander.

A lightened a series on the other hand does the exact opposite :)
