My Focus RS mk1

  Focus RS Mk1
some black headlights are on the to-do list dont worry! Not 100% sure st170 are a straight swap as they run Xenon's as standard iirc.

mud flaps im probably gonna ditch, they scrap on speed bumps which annoys me!

Not sure what the problem with the HID's is though, quite a common mod on the focus by the look of it, perhaps because the orginal lights are so pants! Cant see me changing them unless they need to change when i swap headlights for dark ones.

Usually because they are shockingly aligned and scatter beam into everyone's eyes.

8000k is also way too much.

  Focus RS Mk1
must admit, the mrs got in and said they were bright, i put the full beams on and hardly notice any difference.

Just found a nice how to on changing the lights to dark, home made jobby in order i think. looks easy!

Tinting the glass or painting the inners?

Standard black lights from cv panel or autoclimate will be super cheap.

Xenons obv expensive. They use the same connection though. Easy retrofit.

6k is perfect for hids. And even then I have projectors.

8000k hids and those mudflaps make me so sad but fantastic looking car. In cracking condition aswell looking at the pics.

The Mpg can get ridiculous. Properly on boost you literally watch the tank empty no problem. Torque steer indeed is wild but fun actually. It's not undriveable just funny how it pulls the car.

I never understood how a 1*2 could keep up with one anywhere bar the corners. Not after driving both. Just ime.

They do, tried and tested! I've driven both too, the FRS feels faster due to the power delivery but there's not a ball hair between them upto naughty speeds in reality. The power/weight ratio would also suggest this.

I like them, not 100% sure I'd ever own one though.

Pretty much Identical to my brothers. Sheds, but fast sheds! (And I respect the RS Heritage, before I get my head blown off).

Weird. The torque is crazy though. I can't remember from driving them but do they run out if revs too quickly?

As I've said before, a 172 Cup couldn't get away from my brothers RS. AWAITS MORE FLAME FOR THIS COMMENT.

Mate has one that's been lightly tinkered with... It's a dreamboat.

Standard outside bar us spec lights thanks.

Nice. My mate has one with about the same power and he reckons its quicker than his green mk2 rs.

Both his front wings have started to rust tho

My Mates has a Filter, 3" Turbo Back Exhaust and a Remap and is around 260-270bhp?

Leaves my stock CTR for dead, and im guessing theres not much between a CTR and 182.

I guess the difference between CTR/182s and RS/ST's is the modifiaction. Spend a grand on an N/A and you just about get a double figure BHP increase. On a Turbo'd car you can nudge on 300bhp =/

  Mk7 Fiesta ST
Nice, I had one too and was an excellent car which I really miss. Was gonna buy another instead of the 200 I just bought but there was none for sale as nice as my old one tbh.

Had the US rears, xenons and lots of performance mods.

I thought you posted a few days back about modern Ford's being pap?

Not me mate, I'm a secret fan of modern fords.. I actually planned on getting a fiesta st and it fell through then a mondeo st but couldnt find one I liked. Plus I'm a big fan of the focus st's and rs.

I'm also partial to a cosworth ;)

Lols, have my scincere apologies. I'll find the offender and direct my hate towards him! I think you have a similar username.

Who isn't partial to a Cosworth.

That RS on the previous page is perfect in my opinion, there's just something about Imperial Blue that makes me sex wee a bit every time i see it!!!

  Insignia SRi
Yeah i would go as far as saying the MK1's look better than the Mk2 RS's but future classic for sure.

The new RS's look so mean and purposeful on the road.

cheers for all the comments.

thought id add. My 172 on itbs (200bhp) isnt anywhere near as quick as this. not even close. Obviously the rs isnt standard but it wouldnt have much problems seeing off my old car.

Also, my 172 was about the same in a straight line as a 197. so hard to compare but its quicker than that

Re: My Focus RS mk1 - update (pg4)

Couple of small updates to add.

Firstly, those Ford nuts will know that the RS didnt come with a water temp gauge as standard. It uses that space for a boost gauge on the standard dials. It has a temp warning light instead. The only problem with that is that when wanting to give it the beans you never know when its fully warm. So to that extent i thought id invest in a gauge of some sorts. Over on the RS owners club the Scangauge II is very popular. Im not 100% why they arent used in other cars too much becuase they plug into your OBDII port, which every car after a certain year (2004 iirc) has.

There are other gauges out there that look better and do more but for the price (2nd hand £70-80) its a must! They give you the ability to read and clear fault codes as well as having 4 variables on screen. So for me, water temp is key, also the RS's have a charge cooler, of which the pumps can fail, so keeping an eye on inlet temps is useful. Typical Ford trip computers are crap and dont have any MPG info so it also works this out and battery voltage is always a goodun to see. There are other options but this is what uve set mine up to use. Personal preference. They can also be setup to any display colour which helps in matching to the car. Anyway the pictures...

Where ive mounted it, not intrusive at all and easily seen by the driver, day and night:

AVG = mpg average for the trip. Looks like im gettin mid/low 30's on a steady run. As you can see, blends quite well.

Next up, manifold heatwrap. The previous owner obviously wrapped it on the car and had a shortage of wrap, so the job wasnt the best. Heatwrap is designed to protect the components around the hot exhaust and aid the hot exhaust gas flow. Also it looked very untidy, so i bought some new stuff and wrapped it myself on the car, not the easiest job in the world and ive done the best with the space available. Couple of tiny gaps but i can live with it.

Old stuff:

Slightly better, ive got half a roll left to do the down pipe but it was wet outside and need to get under the car, i'll do it another day!

Mods next up, New stereo, the current item is on its last legs and im sick of it. That'l be ordered at the end of the month. After that, who knows!

Thanks for looking :)

Sean.

Good stuff matey, low to mid 30's mpg wise sounds great i didnt think they would do that lol.

keep us posted with how things are going ;)

  Focus RS Mk1
As i say, very very conservative driving to get that mpg figure! real world it isnt gonna be as good!

yes soaked in water, sqeezed before i put it on so it was super damp then applied. Ran it for ages and went for a drive, steam and smoke from the wrap was comical, all good though :)

Best place for the scanguage is in the triangle storage slot.
