My Favourite shots from 2009

  Ultra Red Megane 175
No more events this year for me, so thought I'd put a quick selection together of my favourite shots from the Rallies I've been to in 2009.

Thanks,

All fantastic.

The Subaru and Hyundai pulling air are my two favorites, love the framing, the colour and the scene they portray is without question: balls out !

Very nice work mate, got the one of the blue scoob as my desktop wallpaper now =D

Absolutely stunning shots. All of them, but this is my favourite! Do you have a bigger version?

I haven't unfortunately, my laptop blew up about three weeks ago and I lost everything; so the largest version I have is the 1024x600 uploaded to Flickr.

Thanks for the comments all.

Rhod.

Can I ask how you choose your settings so you have a crisp shot with the wheels just blurred a bit? Do you trial and error with the shutter speed and then compensate with the aperture or iso to get the right exposure?

Excellent photos btw :)

Hi Andy, it all depends on the location and the type of shot I want to get. Most of the 3/4 jump or sideways shots I take are taken at around 1/250 - 1/500 depending on how fast the car is travelling. I'll then adjust the ISO to achieve an aperture of around 7.1, which is the 'sweet spot' for most lenses and will keep the whole car sharp. The shutter speed will ensure some blur in the wheels to give a sense of motion.

For some shots (#4, #6 & #16 above for example); I'll stop the lens right down to f/2.8 to achieve a very shallow depth of field in order to isolate the subject. Sometimes this means a much higher shutter speed but other factors provide the sense of motion (dust or mud usually).

Hope that helps a bit.
