My Dashboard is lit up like a Christmas tree... EML /

The car was running perfectly until the start of the month when the Electronic fault light came on in the wet...

I drive a 2053 Renault Clio 172 cup and am having trouble with my Electronic Fault & Preheating Warning Light coming on when I am driving, It come on all the time when I lift off the accelerator.

The Car will then only rev to 3k, which I'm guessing is Limp Mode.

Once this happens the light will stay on for a period of time from 5 mins to 30 mins or until the engine is turn off and back on.

In the last week the Engine Management Light has started to come on as soon as the car is started up, and still on untill its turned off.

I've had the car into my local Renault specialist Garage, who said the car isn't showing any faults and have reset the lights, but it could be the throttle body... 10 miles later all the lights are back.

Any ideas what the problem could be or any suggestions to fix it. I'm thinking it could be some sort of relay that may not be working correctly???

If the electronic fault and EML light is on, there must be a code stored. Change your garage to a proper one.

+1 the EML is caused by an electrical signal sent to the ECU which determines this as a fault, therefore throwing up a fault code and the EML

I've had three of these this week alone and it seems to be coming a common failing (all Cups).

Micro breaks in the dash wiring loom is the cause where the loom is clipped too tight. The solution is to either find these breaks and fix em all or buy a replacement loom section from Renault and splice it in to the loom at the breaker behind the washer bottle (R65 iirc). It doesn't throw an EOBD code as the wires all show continuity but when you scope the pedal tracks resistance values you soon see the problem and this is why the fault light is illuminated.

The new loom will have a new plug for the pedal and six wires that will 99% not match your existing wire colours so unless you want massive FAIL pay someone to do it for you properly and make sure they make the joint at the breaker or else they won't fix the bloody problem!
