MOT play in ball joint

Just had the MOT and there was a slight amount of play in on the drivers side ball joint. The guy said it didn't really need messing with "yet" but I want it sorting now really.

What should I be replacing it with parts wise? I've been on KTEC but they seem rather dear for what they are. Has anyone had any joy with any others?

Should I replace both sides?

Is replacing them a big deal time wise etc?

The car is a 55 plate, cup packed clio 182.

Make sure you've got a pickle fork as well the screw ones won't work.

CP4L are great ; however it is mail order only with them, but then near me the ECP branches take an age to serve someone!

Others will disagree here but I would have gone for genuine wishbones. OK, the balljoints are cheaper but I understand ECP paritally bought the Lemforder name, very much like they have with Pagid. This makes it tricky to judge the quality.

Put it this way. On an old Alfa 147, a Vetech arm from a known German Swedish & French motorfactor became an MOT failure after a year and 8,000 miles. The Lemforder item if I had kept the car would have got an advisory (there really was some play there, like a balljoint wearing out kind of wear, not simply a bush going soft). When I spoke to an Alfa specialist about this (I went in for a boost hose) the prop practically laughed in my face, echoing the above statement. In his opinion, Superflex or genuine TRW were the way to go for any upper arm to last longer than a couple of years. FWIW I took more precautions with the second Lemforder arm (I used silicone grease on the bushes, torqued the bushes up to spec etc.
