melted steering wheel

  Clio 1.6 16v Dynamique+
I gather from doing a search that the 'melted' look is a design feature of the clio's lol

Any advice on this,,, peeps found that recovering works well - if so where and rough cost? or should just go and have it replaced, can it be done myself or does it need specialist because of airbag etc?#

Cheers guys

you need a whole new wheel as you cant just replace the rubber grips :(

some people have managed to blag it under warrenty as a defective item, other have not been able to, its pot luck at the dealers

the wheels itself costs a fortune but a few do come up on ebay for good prices

cheers.. the car is ex company, only 54 plate but 89k on the clock. if it's such a common problem u would have thought renault would have no probs replacing it.. but i doubt it lol

My steering wheel melted on my 182 the other day!!! I'm not impressed.

The car was mint, now the wheel has lumpy bits on. Since when has leather melted Renault?
It's not the grips on mine, it's the wheel itself on the right hand side where my hand goes.

Whole new wheel needed. Keep an eye out on ebay, a 182 wheel is circa £550 new I think.

mine right hand side too..

just had a chat with dave at rentech, new wheel for mine is 150+VAT.

Think we should all convoy to a renault dealer and throw sticks at them until they replace the crappy wheels lol

sticks lol. i'd take a boot of breeze blocks if it would help! really lets the car down

Surely we can sue them. If they say the wheels are leather, and my leather has melted? lol

Can leather melt?

Done exactly the same on my Vee. Started about a year ago, but only tried to get it sorted when it went in for its 24k service last week. They agreed absolutely that the leather was "perished", but the workshop chief wouldn't authorize a replacement. Hence, I've got to get on to Renault Customer Services to seek their approval.

As far as I'm concerned it's not fit for purpose and has failed whilst under warranty. Hence it should be replaced! It's not like the car is high mileage or I've got strange acidic sweaty hands!

how much is reasonable to pay for a 182 steering wheel 2nd hand with the odd mark here and there?

also, is the actual steering wheel material any different to the dynamique ones. my dynamique wheel has melted :( but surely if the 182 is leather upholstered, it wouldnt melt?

Glad to see that the fault is across the board!

How can Renault not have recalled? i understand why they wouldnt publically recal, but they should replace any wheel that is brought to their attention!

Mine is no longer under warrenty, but still p*ssed off as its so low mileage
