Master cylinder leak damaging brake servo?

  Ph1 172.
I posted the other day that my brake pedal had gone rock hard and couldn't be depressed. it was intermittent and didn't do it every time I braked.

I took the car to a garage. They have advised the master cylinder has leaked, damaged the brake servo and both need replacing. If they do, I will get down a breaker and get the parts as I don't fancy the new prices!

However my question relates to if this sounds plausible given it was intermittent and not all of the time. They have also quoted 7-8 hours to complete the work.

I just want confirmation before I commit.

It turns out the garage's diagnosis was correct, the master cylinder is leaking and the servo wasn't 'not working' however their fix, which included the servo removal maybey wasn't.

I asked my girlfriend's dad who is a mechanic and he spoke to his mate who is a Renault specialist, who advised it was unlikely to be a damaged servo and that he'd never had to replace a servo and it was most likely the vacuum pipe or one-way valve.

New servo arrived. We swapped the valve over and I had servo assistance! However, the servo was FULL of brake fluid. We used a vacuum pump to remove 600ml of brake fluid from inside the servo. It has evidently been going on well before my ownership. However it must be a very slow leak as the brake fluid sensor works and hasn't come on in the 8 or 9 weeks I've owned the car.
