Manifold to cat fitting kit query

CMR

  A ROFLCOPTER
Hi, can anyone tell me the correct order the cat to mani fitting kit from ktec should be assembled? It has an extra part that goes on each bolt than the Renault ones i've just taken off.

Can't post pics as on my iPhone but can do later if no one knows what I'm on about...!

Sure the deep cup goes before the mani? Can't get the nut on the end cos of the spring if I do it that way.

they push into the recess in either side of the manifold flange. if the original ones are OK, i'd leave them be as they're a bit awkward to get out if they're stuck

Gonna take a few pictures and head inside as i'm a bit confused and no matter which way I try i can't get the nuts on the end due to the springs.

Right here are some pictures.

If I put the deep cup before the mani I cannot get the nut on the bolt.

Here is the standard bolt i took off, compared to the new one... have i put it together right?

Here you can see what I thought you meant by the deep cup before the mani..

BUt if i do that, i have this problem,

I.e, Do not have enough thread to get the nut on the end!.. I can JUST get it on one bolt, but then there is no chance in hell of getting it on the other.

Is this right?

And finally, This is how the OEM one looked, it fitted perfect and did not have a deep cup, on the manifold side all there is, is the 9mm bolt head nothing else.

Appreciate the help by the way.

the old cups are still in the mani ;)

yeah. just need to knock them out with hammer/screwdriver. should be easy on a 182; it's awkward on a 172 as the mani's much shorter

Ah right cheers guys, I presumed the manifold flange was all one piece.

No wonder i couldnt get the nuts on with two cups Hah.

Thanks for the help, will crack on again in the morning.

Is it common for these to go? One of the bolts on mine has come loose and the exhaust has started rasping.

Where did you get new ones from?

It's embarassing driving around now, both the bolts have gone and it's a loud mofo!!

Have ordered the kit from ktec so hopefully it doesn't take to long to arrive. Do I need to get any paste or anything to use when fitting?

Could my gasket be fubard or nuts be loose, as when i put my foot down i get a rasping/air leak sound until it gets higher up the rev range(producing more heat) sealing the exhaust back up.

Best to have a look.

Most common place is the cat to centre section, the clamp is a c**t

I got mine all fitted now but it still blows on cold starts, and very slightly when warm... had a look and cant see whats blowing :(

I checked mine, and i can spin the bolts_as a whole, not the end nut) with my hand and move them about, should it be tighter than this

Had a go a tightening it up, its as far as it can go but the spring is still loose, i'm guessing a new kit would be a good call, as it always seems i have a blow from somewhere.

Brute strength saves the day lol

Was getting dark so had to leave it like this for now:

Didn't think the silver bit in the middle (sure it has some fancy name) should be showing? Do I just keep tightening it up to seal it?

Also the new bolts I got were shorter than the original ones so had trouble getting the bolt on the end, is this right? Have reused the old ones for now.

Really? Went for a quick drive and it sounded a bit raspy, maybe the rest of the exhaust is gubbed then!!

Might have another go at fitting the new bolts again tomorrow.

Hmmm I was quoted (on Monday) £56 plus VAT! I'm not 100% certain that he was quoting the correct part though as he struggled to find it on the system.

you got your full system on now CMR?

Yes mate.

Its still blowing slightly as said above, i dont know what it is.. I fitted it myself on stands so I think the decat isnt sat right.
As its the scorpion decat the flange to manifold is adjustable so dont think its 100% aligned right.

Its not physically blowing though as I couldnt feel it, can just hear it when accelerating :(
