Lumpy jumpy ride

  Renault clio
Recently car has developed jerking jumping whilst driving. Starts in lower gears mainly and has a reduced power for acceleration. Took it to my usual garage who changed a coil and tested the others and they thought that had resolved it but when I drove home same happened. The garage ran diagnostic but no error codes were showing, have advised they cannot find any fault and to either drive until error codes come up or take to Tenault for full diagnostic testing. Any suggestions? No fancy jargon or abbreviations I am a novice so don’t understand it all! Thanks in advance. By the way, not sure if it’s related but the exhaust fumes don’t smelll as petrolly as they usually do!?

Having had recent problems with injectors i'd suggest it could be an injector failing. I experienced similar symptoms that were solved with a new set of injectors.

Also might help to know what car you have.

I reckon it's the crankshaft sensor had the same problem with mine. If you let the car idle then wiggle the wires if it cuts out or changes that's the problem.

Update. On having driven the car about 12 miles yesterday, when you try to accelerate it seems to lose power start jumping and then kicks in with moving faster! So think it could be injector related

Take it to a decent mechanic/renault specialist who knows what they are doing, otherwise replacing parts at random will run into money.

Randomly changing parts is way more fun than taking it to a forum respected industry specialist. Losing power under load suggests its an ignition based fault so can be narrowed to coil pack or leads, spark plugs or injectors.

If the car has a rough idle you can unplug each injector to see if the symptoms increase or remain indicating which cylinder is the culprit.
