Lowering mk2 172

  The Bus and MRT
I wouldn't mind lowering the ride height of my 172, thing is I have to go over a lot of fairly harsh speed bumps on my way to work. What's the best I can hope for without destroying the ride quality and signifcantly slowing me down over the bumps? I don't really want to spend a lot so I'm thinking just springs, is 40mm going to be harsh without shocks?

I know it's the other end of the scale but how's the ride on coilovers and how much of a drop do you get? I used to have a Saxo and had it lowered 60 at the front and 65 at the rear with Sparco shocks and I forget what the springs were. How would coil overs compare to that?

Cheers

is 40mm going to be harsh without shocks - I would say so.. but thats my opinion..
Eibach sportlines - 30mm drop, eibach pro's - 10mm drop
apex - 30mm drop

Ok cheers, and 30mm should be no problem?

Anyone got coil overs that can compare them to the setup I had on on my Saxo?

i'd go for the Eibach Pros like I have got given what you have said about ride quality, anything else and its just going to be even harsher.

I wish some of you tarts would stop quoting Prolines as -10mm, it's quite simply wrong.

They're good for -20f/-25r/mm fact.

Eibach, sportlines or prolines depending on how much drop you want, but wouldnt ever buy any other manufacturers springs now I've had eibach!

EDIT: you wont get much cheaper than yozzapsorts prices for them

Eibach Pro springs dropped my bus about 10mm, nowhere near 20mm.. in fact, I had to get my tape measure & anorak out to measure it, to make sure it had actually dropped it, cos it didn't look like it.
The ride was improved though..
