Lost 5th Gear. Gearbox shat itself?

So I was powering on after a roundabout, went for fifth and it just revved out, then this horrible noise started. I've still got all gears except fifth. It makes the noise in all gears and isn't affected by clutch position. It gets worse with speed. Should I get in touch with @NorthloopCup ?

Does it physically select 5th gear, just no drive? I can’t watch the video as it won’t load.

Sounds like something constantly rattling inside the box to me.

Can you grind the teeth off 5th?

I can make the stick go in to fifth but there is no drive. It just feels like neutral . Not sure why you can't watch the video

Right you’ve lost teeth on 5th gear then mate. Those bits are right now acting like grinding paste to the bearings, synchros and remaining gears.
I can never watch videos that are directly uploaded to the forum tbh. f**k knows why.

So yeah, you need a rebuild or a replacement box I’m afraid.

I see jc5’s do all weird and wonderful things mate. As a rule though, high torque loading and low rpm can exasperate these problems. That goes for any gearbox. However, there’s always the issue that something’s failed internally and got between the teeth on 5th. That creates a weak spot and the rotational speed and torque take care of the rest.

Ah yeah that will be why I got 4 seconds worth of video after about 10 minutes! Lol

I don't think I'd see any benefits from a diff. I don't track it and don't enjoy driving hard in wet conditions. Plus it is very expensive! 😆

Would I be best to get a gearbox swap done at a renault specialist? Or just my local garage?

I'll probably get a new clutch as well. Anything else worth changing ?

Any garage can change the box mate, but I guess it depends on who your local specialist is?

Deffo a clutch and redline mtl gear oil imo.

Specialist is SWR and about 60 miles away, so not ideal.
