mate id look at insurance if ur 17! im 19 with 2years ncb and getting quotes of £1900

Insurance you should be ok if you shop around, try Direct Line and Quinn used to be good. You can bounce them off each other and get them to reduce their prices.
A friend got insurance on a 1 series BMW at 17 at a reasonable rate doing this!

Good luck buddy

not realy bothered about the insurance. all ready paid £4000 a year for a modified 1.4 16v, the with help got it to under half the amount i used to pay.

if the quotes are around £4k then im not to chuffed but over that i might have second thoughts.

Seriously, is there not some sort of questionnaire we can get people to fill out before they join??

Good idea, why do you feel that you need a 172??
Save your money for a couple of years, sell the modified 1.4! Get a 1.2 earn some no claims! Then when your 19/20, get yourself a faster car!
Spending £4000 on insurance is utter stupidity, and you should probably learn to drive first, before you get into a Clio sport, you'll end up killing
Yourself or someone else!

I'm sure the majority of people on here waited till insurance was cheap before they got their clio's, don't be so impatient!!

I'd go for a car with a lower insurance group TBH.

Lower than a 1.2 Clio??
I had a 1.3 Mk3 Escort for my first car!
Didn't get a powerful car till I was 22 when I got my R26!
Was worth the wait.

no. i used to pay £4k for my modified 1.4. but i managed to get it to under half the amount.

im stuck what to do now because thinking of having a 172 at only 17 might be pointless. but i dnt want to spend much getting my 1.4 fixed.

@ stockers2169

performance cams of a 1.6( pain in the backside to fit)
.ecu remap
.17" low profile wheels
.172 body kit
.full system after-market exhaust
.cold forced intake
.quick shift gear stick
.gear box syncro's uprated
.and something else i cant remeber of the top of my head

that is quite impressive to have on a car at 17! If I were you fix the 1.4 and keep in for few more years!! I'd be happy to have car like that and I'm 20!

im going on the route of keeping it i think.
just means i gotta work my ass off at work to get it back on the road and to keep it insured ect.

god i hate the new schem for 17 year old drivers.
rip off on insurance but i dnt want anything else lower in performance than the car i have now.
cnt wait til im 18!!! 2years no claims( 1 year off my scooter when i was 16 and the other year off this car)

insurance should be a bit better hopefully

I am rather baffled, you say you need to "work your ass off to get in back on the road" yet you are contemplating getting a 172/182 in place of it?

two questions:
  • How much are you likely to be able to sell your current clio for if its not 'fixed'?
  • How were you going to fund the additional purchase and insurance costs if you did change cars?

ok. so i get this to people.
my 1.4 had a big issue with the back sub axle and i was contemplating on wether or not to fix it( dnt now the cost of the fix!!!) or just get a 172/182 because i dnt want a 1.2 and dont see the point in getting a 1.6.

my 1.4 is only worth the best part of £2000 broken down into pieces.

and to fund the additional costs for insurance and ect if i did decide to change cars, i would have to do more hours at work to earn more and use the money in my bank account. £2k from stripping down my current clio + £4k in the bank from savings should give me enough if i choose to get a clio sport.

but atm im just going to see what happens. if i get the car fixed then great, save me allot of money. if not then the upgrade which i'll have to suffer for.

im sticking with renault clio's because i cba to get any other make of car.

Tbf, I'm not sure insurance would be more than £4k?? Stick your parents on as second drivers and you should see it well below that me thinks.
