local help needed with changing rear lights...

I know it's been covered many times on the forum but I'm having trouble with changing the standard 172 rear lights to the newer version.

I've changed the wiring via a diagram I downloaded but started having problems with fog light on dash coming on and very weak indicators flashing as well as other random bits happening.I have cleaned the earth points but hasn't made any difference. So I decided to put the originals back on and the newer ones are just sat in my shed doing nothing

Just wondering if there is anybody local who has done it and can take a look and see what the hell is going on and sort it out.
