Interweb-broadband help needed

  White Van Man
Can anyone help a stupid old fat bloke out ? Recently changed from BT to Sky, everything ok for a bit, then went really, really slow, around 260 kb/s, down from around 6.5 gig. Spoke to a nice bloke from sky who checked my router, and my line can handle around 8.5 gig. He had me input a "netstat" command, telling me that I should have around 5 connections to the 'net at the most, I have around 60 !! Tells me I have a virus or a trojan. Did a full Mcafee scan, windows defender scan, and an Adaware scan, nothing showed up. Reinstalled XP , ran all the scans again, nothing showed up. My speeds up to about 4.5 meg now, but when I run the "netstat" command again, I'm still getting about 50-60 things showing.
Does anyone understand a single word of what I've just typed.......:S
