Interesting MX5

  182cup & 172 racecar
Saw an MX5 on Sat morning at my mates garage. It was a Megabusa engined one, guy said he's been working on it for ages, and when it's been fully tested, he's gong to sell the kits, so it will be all there for you to just bolt in.

Sounded fantastic.

Sorry no pics, he didn't want me to take any, but I'll try and keep an update going if I see it/him again.

I want one after seeing this, fk me it shifts as well.

Hyabussa engined cars do sound amazing

Was at a show in hull and because z-cars are based there they had a demo bussa turbo'd mini with full spaceframe

Saw one of these at Blyton Park this summer, sounded ace but didn't look that quick somehow.

What in, an Mx5? I've seen them in a Westfield before, but they only weigh 500kg's. Now that was rapid.

Yeah, there were quite a few people poking around looking at it. The chap did say he was thinking of trying to sell kits, so maybe it's the same car...

One from a few years ago: http://www.miatabusa.com/

And another: http://www.motoiq.com/magazine_arti...usa-part-1-what-the-hell-we-are-thinking.aspx

At first glance the MX-5 does appear too heavy, but the 'Busa engine develops enough torque on paper, especially given the car will be a fair bit lighter than with the original engine (which is a steel block).

Then when you gear it correctly...

Would be an ace project, but I'd rather bash one in a kit car, the MX-5 chassis / subframes are so chunky...

Actually I drove a Radical SR-1 a few weeks back, car with two people in was about 650kg, and even with 'only' 130ft/lbs it felt more than torquey enough. Obviously the MX-5 is heavier than that, probably 800kg if stripped out and with the bike engine / gearbox in, but it I don't think it'd be un-usable.

i bet it would shift! turbo busas can be good for 4-500 bhp depending on how much work you have done. i believe they can run a turbo's std busa lump to around 280-300. Ive seen one with a boggo zx12r lump fitted in and that was pretty quik and only around 190

It's got 3 propshafts, he needs these to get the right angle to the rear, as I think he said, the max a uj can take is 9deg. Very clever bloke, and done some nice work on the manifold.

There has been one put in an Escort, and that goes alright.

mx5 is too heavy.

busa engine in a busa, great, busa engine with a turbo bolted on in a westfield, meh. in an mx5? waste of time.

I had a feeling that was the case - still - a turbo'ed 'Busa engine in a kit car certainly wouldn't be meh! In fact, it would give you more bhp/ton (over 600bhp/ton, given 80kg driver, 500kg car and 350bhp - I know of a couple of sprint cars down near 450kg and at 400bhp) than an 08 onwards 'Busa bike (just under 600bhp/ton, 80kg rider and 265kg bike), and corner quicker.

A Pinto in a Robin Hood wouldn't even reach 200bp/ton for comparison.

Obviously it's fair play if you prefer bikes - I can imagine they feel amazing! - I just felt I needed to stick up for kit cars :p
