High manifold pressure

Hi

My 182 is in a garage as it kept giving me the flashing engine light + misfiring etc, especially when idling for any length of time. They tracked this down to a faulty injector, which was replaced with a genuine Renault part today. Apparently this made things slightly better.

Now they're saying it's throwing up 'High Manifold Pressure' errors on their diagnostics and they are looking into the cause.

What could this be? Will it be expensive? They've already had the car for 3 days (including today) - only due to part availability but still extremely inconvenient for me.

The car has a Janspeed exhaust (cat-back), fitted by 519 a year or so ago. The left side of it has dropped due to the awful exhaust hangers on the Clio.

Thanks.

Thanks Fred.

I don't think this garage have the renault locking tools so they won't be able to check the timing properly - is that right?

Rough cost on a MAP sensor?

if Danny checked it it'll be spot on, replace the map sensor, is it running like a bag of spanners and the CAT glowing bright red?

Not been able to look under the car due to weather but it is running like a bag of spanners the majority of the time. Really lumpy idle.

Will see what they say tomorrow. Wish I'd been able to take it to Danny or someone but due to circumstances had to use a local garage :(

Who do you use mate? Swear every garage in Northampton I have tried has been full of cowboys.

Yeah just looked on google my sister needs a half decent garage to send her car so will tell her about them. (Don't panic Dan ;))

Right they have had the car since last Tuesday and I still haven't got it back

They have said that since replacing:

1 injector
Spark plugs (checked and they were the correct NGK ones)
HT Leads

it has now developed into a constant misfire and all 3 other injectors have failed when moved to cylinder 4. They have said all four need replacing - obviously this isn't cheap as they're about £70 each. They've done compression checks (all fine) and various other diagnostic stuff which I will ask them to detail on the invoice

Does this sound reasonable? The car is just under 100k and has been relatively well looked after. I am at the last straw though as it's cost me s**tLOADS in the last few years. Danny knows what sort of issues I've had and how much I've had to spend on it. My calculations put it somewhere around £4k in maintainence/repairs in 3 years...

This bill is looking to be around £600 now including all the labour etc. Plus I won't get the car back until at least tomorrow evening now. FML

Don't think ill send her there then! Lol

Sounds a bit odd that all injectors need replacing to me mate.

Now i'm hardly one to be any use with cars but to me it sounds electrical/ecu related?

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
infact I'd go as far as guessing their diagnostics is reading the cylinder numbers in reverse, so it's actually no1 they're changing when it's saying no4 at fault. get it out of there. They don't know what they're doing

Will call them in a min and ask to pick it up. I'll pay for what they've done so far and perhaps drop it off to you danny at some point

So, 8 days and £430 later I have my car back. Not sure if you can see the image above in detail but they have put the wrong oil in, should be 5w40 not 5w30. I didn't realise until searching here when I got back. Car is going back in tomorrow, bet they'll be happy to see me. Will be seeking a refund of at least part of the bill and a free oil change with the correct viscosity.

Pissed off.

£430 for a set of plugs, leads and 1 injector? that's about 1 hour's work tops, they charging £350ph?

s**t oil filter and cheap HT leads too (sorry!)

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
so, they replaced injectors on 1 and 3, but the fault codes said 2 and 3?
Wrong oil £45+vat......f**k sake

I know. They will not be happy to see me tomorrow.

to be fair they have only charged 2.5hours which to check timing and fix the bits plus diagnostic ain't that bad really!

Looks like it. Times like this I wish I had just rented a car for a few days and dropped the Clio off to Danny or you!!

Someone's been using the Carlube books again... "Is the vehicle French? 5w/30 C2"

Went in this morning. They said they call valvoline direct for oil advice and they said there's 5 recommendations for the car, and 3 of them are 5w30. Idiots

At least they are going to change it for free though.

So, have you learnt your lesson of not taking it to a specialist? I imagine you're applying ointment to that burn you have, so won't say too much, but damn that's a nice bill lol!

Yes. I've learned my lesson. However circumstances make it difficult to use specialists as I need my car daily and the nearest us 40 miles away (519)
