  06 Hyundai coupe 2.0
Just been told my car needs a new starter motor.
Should I
1) go the renault and get them to do it?
2) good private garage?
3) get a second hand one and get my step dad to fit it?

Iv no idea what costs would be, i don't want to spend more than £150ish, and yes number 3 is cheapest, but I don't want a second hand starter motor going again in 6 months.

What would you do, any advice would be great.

Are you sure yours has gone and can't be refurbed? That would be my first option. Then get a new one and have it fitted by a respectable garage! But for under £150 including parts? I think not.

Well it works intermittently, how would I know if it could get refurbished?
I'm not very good with the mechanical side of cars.

I've read on here that Renault exchange units are actually new units. If that is true then see how much one costs from one of those online Renault parts dealers.

Alternators are expensive, try n find a good second hand one, and there not hard to fit, most people can do it, why don't you try urself and if you get stuck then just put a thread up and people will be happy to help you, alternators usually last for a very long time so I wouldn't be to shy about getting a second hand one, I got a second hand coil pack on mine, never had any probs with it, try " just Renault" look em up online there a specialist renault breakers.
