help needed!!!!!

hi, this has been posted before but my mate needs a favour, he is looking at a clio cup to buy, but something doesn't sound right to me, he got someone to do an hpi check for him but its saying the reg doesn't exsist. whats the link to where you can check a vehicles history for free???

My old clio has one owner before me, does this mean sum1 else has purchased it or does it mean two owners in total

Ive just tried this on my car n it dosent seem 2 able 2 find my reg, I tried my 3 previous cars in there and it found them.

LOL! Just realised the previous owner had it on a private plate n the dvla havent updated it yet! car was registered jan 2003 last change of owner was feb 2004, i got it last fri so im guessing its had 2 owners b4 me!
