Hi,

Just got a clio renaultsport 172 cup for £1200.

Cambelt was done 5000 miles back, clutch seems fine, no knocking sounds in 1st/2nd gear so gearbox mount seems fine.

It has a aftermarket exhaust and bloody hell it's loud , couldn't do more than 70 on the motorway due to the noise so that needs changing to something quieter.

Where's a good garage in the south west to take it to, i've heard remtec in Bristol are renault specialists.

Well it's home and despite a folder full of bills , there's no bill for a cambelt change grrr.

On the plus side there's a bill for £700 worth of kw adjustable coilovers and £400 worth of brake upgrades.

For piece of mind it may be wise to take it to Dan@SJM in Glastonbury for at least a look over it. He can look at the tensioners and may be able to tell you if it's likely the belt has been changed recently or not.

Yeah that's the plan , cambelt, quiet exhaust and oild change although i might do that myself.
The dip stick is the little one at the front of the engine isn't it? couldn't find another.

Can't do friday as i'm in work 7 sat plus plan is not to use car much until i've got the cambelt done.

Any suggestions as to a quiet exhaust pipe?

Update- cambelt has been done , it was stamped in the service book and i was looking in the wad of billls.

However it was done 5000 miles ago but in 2011 so it's due to be done next year anyway.

I'm in your region too! Welcome. This is a great source of information for things like exhausts / choice mods etc.

I had a KTEC Stealthsport with cat and it was great. Not too boomy but a nice noise when you want it. Have a search through some threads for various comparisons.

If its bits and bobs you need doing I highly reccommend @lemonnobby - he sorted me out for the minor things like brakes etc. at a very reasonable cost. He is located in South Central Bristol.

Hi,
Just a quick update , cars off to dan on monday for the cambelt and to have the new ktec super stealth exhaust fitted.
Future plans are get the suspension sorted, it's very crashy on road with the coilovers, think i'd like to go back to stock.

So great job by Dan at sjm today.
All cambelty bits and waterpump replaced and new exhaust fitted.
Unfortunately coilovers were seized so couldn't be adjusted, steering pumps leaking and clutch release bearing is sticking.

Update -

So today was mot day for my cup and it passed after the headlights were cleaned/polished and a new wiper blade was put on.

For the 10 months I've had it the airbag light has been coming on randomly I can go months with it off and luckily It stayed off for its mot.

In the last 10 months I've done quite a bit to the car :

cambelt and dephaser and waterpump

new exhaust

clutch

steering pump

all fluids replaced

hand brake cables

stiff shift gear kit

and today a full service so new oil, filter, air filter and spark plugs.

Obviously being French its feisty, when it went to the garage I mentioned the boot wouldn't unlock ,now it unlocks but wont lock.
