Handbrake Problem ?

My handbrake in the car has always been decent with no issues and then about 3/4 nights ago i pulled the handbrake like always and not in a harsh or violent way and there was a clunk noise that was loud enough for me to notice it.
Ever since then my handbrake seems to rise up by a fair amount of clicks now and its like its free'd itself up and moves like the actual handbrake is lose.

The clunk came from the handbrake itself inside the car under the plastic trim.

Any Ideas ?

How could i be able to tell ?

I have looked up the parts cat and had a look.
I currently have 2 handbrake cables in the house but unsure if they are the same part numbers so i will check them over the weekend.

iirc, I may be wrong, but sometimes they can just come "unhooked". So you might be lucky and not have to change it at all.

do i need to get under the car to check this or can i just pop the plastics off and have a look there ?

Jack up the rear beam whilst the car in gear so the fronts hold the car etc, handbrake on then try and spin each rear wheel.

Im going to rip all the plastics off first and check the inside of the handbrake mech.

If nothing there i will get it on a ramp and have it checked on sunday

On the trophy I take it? Im not an expert but there isnt much to see underneath the handbrake cover if thats what you mean? Its underneath the car, then remove the heatshield to see the main part I think.

My leveller was wonky meaning one cable is stretched slightly more, I guess if one cable has snapped it would make the handbrake sit much higher.

As above you'll need to remove the heatshield to see the cable ends.

Im just going to get it on the ramp tomorrow, pop the heat shield off and have a look.

As i say i have 2 spanking new brake cables in the house so i will get them done if this is the cause

As long as there genuine Renault? I've read OEM only, aftermarket never fit!

Almost everything i get is Genuine renault.

As i say im going to the garage tomorrow to box up my sachs so i will check my cables and cross the part numbers
