Handbrake Help

My hand break is BROKEN!! the cable is fine but the problem i have is that the screw that holds it 2 the main body of the car has come loose, snapped and broken and now the hole is rather large!!

Here are some PICS!!!! Any help would be good!!

is there enough room around the area underneath the car where the nut lives to be fitting a bigger bolt/nut/washer combo - or is it a box section?

woops! those handbrake turns didnt pay off well then

Just going to be a case of a bigger bolt and washer mate. Get to a good DIY/screwfix or something and see what you can find. Don't panic. Make sure the bare metal where it's stripped out is painted over, otherwise you'll have rust issues later

i had a quick look under the car but i think its a box section so it might be tricky 2 replace. But i will see if i can pick up a larger bolt and see if that works, Cheers

You can buy from some motor factors and i know tweeks have got them as a kit is a threded insert which is almost like pop rivoted into the metal and that can take bolts in various sizes, ideal for box setion and double skinned panels.

fat nut and bolt and some washers will sort it

ive seen a clio handbrake which had rusted rite through the floor on a 52 plate lol

GRRRR damm thing, still cant fix it, The problem is that i cant put a nut and bolt through it because there is some rubber in the way which i cant remove, Also i tryed 2 undo the other bolt that is holding the back of the handbreak but i cant because it just spins and i cant grip it because of the RUBBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

can you not use a wire threat insert?or just tap the whole to a nut of your choice?

I dont really know what you mean, I dont think i can do that because the hole in the main body of the car is now alot larger than the hole on the handbreak, unless i made the hole larger by drilling it!!

weld it down - 5 minute job; would be hidden by the plastic cover

Fixed at last!!! i put the car on axel stands found out that the hand break is not in a box section and found out that if i remove the exhaust heat shield its right under there, so fat bolt and washer saved me, cheers 4 all your help!
